What they need

About the Role

SG Epay is looking for a Business Development Executive – Payments to support the growth of our merchant portfolio, merchant onboarding, payment project coordination, and selected payment channel relationships.

This role is suitable for someone with 3–5 years of experience in payments, merchant acquiring, payment sales, PSPs, payment gateways, fintech, banking merchant services, POS payments, or B2B merchant services.

The candidate does not need to come only from an online payments background. Experience in offline payment acceptance, POS merchant acquisition, card acquiring, QR payments, merchant services, or payment-related sales will also be relevant. As long as the candidate understands merchants, payment acceptance, onboarding, settlement, pricing, and basic payment operations, he or she should be able to pick up the role quickly.

This is not a pure sales role. The candidate will also need to understand merchant requirements, onboarding documents, pricing, settlement arrangements, payment channels, internal coordination, and basic payment risk issues.

Strong spoken Chinese is required, as the role involves frequent communication with China-based management, technical, operations, and support teams. Good English is also required for communication with local merchants, payment partners, acquirers, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Merchant Development

· Identify, approach, and develop suitable local Singapore merchants.

· Understand merchants’ business models, payment needs, transaction volume, customer profile, pricing expectations, settlement requirements, and operational requirements.

· Develop merchants across relevant payment acceptance scenarios, including retail, service providers, e-commerce, education, ticketing, platforms, B2B services, and other suitable merchant categories.

· Support commercial discussions with merchants, including pricing, payment methods, settlement cycle, reserve requirements, onboarding timeline, and service scope.

· Maintain good relationships with merchants before and after onboarding.

· Help the company build a higher-quality and more diversified merchant portfolio.

2. Merchant Onboarding and Project Coordination

· Coordinate merchant onboarding from initial discussion to go-live.

· Collect and follow up on merchant documents, including company information, business description, website or business materials, product or service details, refund policy, transaction volume forecast, and supporting documents.

· Work with compliance, operations, risk, and technical teams to complete merchant review and onboarding.

· Coordinate payment setup, API or POS-related requirements, test account setup, UAT, technical documentation, callback settings, and go-live support where applicable.

· Track merchant onboarding status, pending items, blockers, and next steps.

· Prepare clear internal updates and reports for management.

3. Merchant Success and Account Management

· Act as the main contact point for selected merchants.

· Understand merchant feedback and coordinate internal support where needed.

· Follow up on transaction issues, settlement questions, refund issues, technical issues, payment performance, and operational matters.

· Help merchants understand SG Epay’s onboarding, settlement, reserve, refund, and risk requirements.

· Escalate merchant risk issues, complaints, chargebacks, abnormal transactions, or operational concerns to management in a timely manner.

4. Payment Channel and Acquirer Coordination

· Support management and operations team in coordinating with payment channels, acquirers, PSPs, gateways, banks, and payment partners.

· Depending on the candidate’s experience and capability, take responsibility for selected payment channel relationships in parallel with the operations team.

· Assist with channel-related projects, including new MID setup, merchant submission, commercial discussion support, compliance coordination, and technical integration.

· Follow up with payment partners on channel onboarding, merchant approval, technical testing, settlement arrangements, transaction issues, and operational matters.

· Work with the operations team to understand and follow up on channel-related data, including chargeback reports, fraud monitoring data, TC40 / TC15 reports, RDR / Ethoca status, and Visa/Mastercard risk-related information.

· Coordinate with internal teams in Singapore and China to ensure payment channel and merchant projects move forward smoothly.

· Translate business requirements into clear action items for technical and operations teams.

· Prepare regular progress updates for Singapore management and China headquarters.

5. Payment Risk Awareness

· Maintain basic awareness of payment risk issues, including chargebacks, fraud, merchant category risk, refund disputes, rolling reserve, settlement risk, and scheme monitoring.

· Understand that certain merchant categories may require security deposit, rolling reserve, or additional risk controls.

· Coordinate with internal teams when merchants have chargebacks, refund disputes, abnormal transactions, or risk-related issues.

· Develop familiarity with Visa/Mastercard acquiring and monitoring concepts, including chargeback ratios, fraud ratios, VAMP-related monitoring, and other scheme risk indicators.

· Support the company’s objective of developing sustainable merchant volume with manageable risk.

Requirements

· 3–5 years of experience in business development, merchant acquisition, account management, payment sales, merchant acquiring, fintech, PSP, payment gateway, banking merchant services, POS payments, QR payments, or e-commerce-related services.

· Experience dealing with merchants, payment companies, acquirers, banks, gateways, fintech partners, or merchant service providers is preferred.

· Understanding of payment acceptance, merchant onboarding, pricing, settlement, refunds, and basic payment operations.

· Experience in either online or offline payment environments will be considered.

· Basic understanding of KYC/KYB, payment integration or payment setup, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, and rolling reserve is preferred.

· Strong communication and follow-up skills.

· Able to manage multiple merchant and payment projects at the same time.

· Able to coordinate with external merchants and internal compliance, operations, risk, and technical teams.

· Fluent spoken Chinese is required, as the role involves frequent communication with China-based management, technical, operations, and support teams.

· Good written and spoken English is required for communication with local merchants, payment partners, acquirers, and internal stakeholders.

· Proactive, outgoing, commercially minded, and detail-oriented.

· Able to prepare clear meeting notes, project trackers, merchant updates, and management reports.

Preferred Qualifications

· Prior experience in a payment company, PSP, acquirer, payment gateway, fintech company, bank merchant acquiring team, POS payment company, QR payment provider, or merchant services team.

· Experience with merchant acquisition, merchant onboarding, payment setup, account management, or payment channel coordination.

· Familiarity with Visa/Mastercard acquiring, chargebacks, fraud monitoring, rolling reserve, RDR, Ethoca, TC40 / TC15, or similar payment risk concepts.

· Experience working with China-based technical or operations teams.

· Existing network with local Singapore merchants, payment partners, merchant service providers, platforms, or business associations.

· Ability to support selected acquirer or payment channel relationships independently after onboarding and training.

Key Attributes

· Strong business development ability, but not purely sales-driven.

· Able to understand both commercial and operational details.

· Comfortable coordinating across merchants, payment channels, compliance, operations, and technical teams.

· Strong ownership and follow-up discipline.

· Sensitive to merchant quality and payment risk.

· Able to communicate effectively in both Chinese and English.

· Able to work independently in a fast-moving payment environment.

· Practical, hands-on, and willing to follow up on details until matters are resolved.

Role Objective

The objective of this role is to help SG Epay grow a higher-quality merchant portfolio, support merchant onboarding and payment setup, and coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure merchants can go live smoothly and operate with manageable risk.

This role will also support selected payment channel and acquirer coordination where required, working in parallel with the operations team. The primary focus is merchant business development, onboarding, merchant success, payment project coordination, and payment partner follow-up.
