What they need

Business Development Manager

There is more in you.

At Outward Bound, we help people discover what they're capable of.

Every year, thousands of rangatahi, educators, leaders and teams come through our programmes in Anakiwa and across Aotearoa. They leave with greater confidence, stronger connections and a renewed sense of what's possible.

We're a charity with a simple belief: when people grow, communities grow too.

We're looking for a Business Development Manager to help more organisations experience the impact of Outward Bound. This is an opportunity to build meaningful partnerships, grow our reach and help more New Zealanders discover there's more in them.

About the role

Based in our Auckland office, you'll be responsible for growing our organisational partnerships and helping new clients connect with Outward Bound.

You'll spend your time building relationships, understanding the challenges organisations face, and showing how our programmes can help develop stronger people, stronger teams and stronger communities.

This is a role for someone who enjoys opening doors, creating opportunities and turning conversations into long-term partnerships.

You'll work closely with our programme, marketing and fundraising teams to make sure every partnership delivers value for both our clients and our mission.

What you'll be doing

  • Building relationships with businesses, government agencies and community organisations
  • Identifying new opportunities for growth and impact
  • Meeting with decision-makers to understand their goals and challenges
  • Developing tailored proposals and partnership opportunities
  • Growing a healthy pipeline of prospective clients and partners
  • Managing contract negotiations and securing new business
  • Representing Outward Bound at events, conferences and networking opportunities
  • Working closely with internal teams to ensure a great client experience
  • Sharing market insights and emerging trends that help shape our strategy
  • Maintaining accurate CRM records and reporting on activity and results

What we're looking for

You might already work in business development, account management, partnerships or sales. More importantly, you're someone who knows how to build trust, create opportunities and develop strong relationships.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a track record of winning and growing new business
  • Enjoys meeting people and building genuine relationships
  • Communicates clearly and confidently
  • Can balance strategic thinking with day-to-day action
  • Is organised, self-motivated and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Values collaboration and enjoys being part of a team
  • Understands how to navigate complex stakeholder environments
  • Has experience using CRM systems and Microsoft 365 tools

Experience in education, leadership development, learning and development, not-for-profit organisations or professional services would be valuable, but we're open to people from a range of backgrounds.

If you're excited by helping people and organisations grow, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Outward Bound?

Every member of our team gets the opportunity to experience an Outward Bound course in Anakiwa.

You'll spend time in one of the most beautiful parts of Aotearoa, gaining a deeper understanding of the experience we're here to deliver.

Alongside that, you'll enjoy:

  • An annual trip to Anakiwa for Te Hui Nui, our all-staff gathering
  • Great coffee, thanks to our friends at Eighthirty Coffee Roasters
  • Flexible working arrangements where possible
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Regular team lunches and events
  • A dog-friendly office
  • A supportive and inclusive team that genuinely cares about each other

Most importantly, you'll be part of an organisation that changes lives every day.

The partnerships you build will help more people access experiences that grow confidence, resilience, self-belief and connection.
