What they need

Business Development Manager – Sub-Advised Insurance Group

The Opportunity

A leading global investment management firm is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to drive growth across strategic insurance and sub-advisory relationships. This is a senior, commercially focused role for an investment management professional with deep knowledge of the insurance marketplace. The Business Development Manager will serve as the commercial lead for assigned relationships, developing executive-level partnerships, identifying new opportunities, expanding existing mandates, and increasing assets under management.

Working closely with relationship management, investments, product, and other internal teams, this individual will develop strategic account plans and position the firm as a long-term investment partner to insurance organizations.

What You’ll Do

  • Own growth objectives across a portfolio of strategic insurance and sub-advisory relationships.
  • Develop and execute account strategies focused on retention, expansion, and long-term partnership growth.
  • Identify and originate opportunities for new mandates, product expansion, and increased share of wallet.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives and key decision-makers within insurance organizations.
  • Lead commercial discussions, opportunity development, and negotiations.
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers to ensure a coordinated client experience.
  • Understand client needs and connect them with relevant investment capabilities and solutions.
  • Monitor insurance industry trends, competitive developments, and emerging opportunities.
  • Coordinate client engagement across Investments, Product Management, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Distribution, and senior leadership.
  • Contribute to broader channel strategy and long-term business planning.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of experience in sub-advisory or institutional business development and/or relationship management.
  • Significant experience working with insurance carriers and/or sub-advisory relationships.
  • Deep understanding of the retail insurance investment landscape, including separate accounts, VITs, variable annuities, and sub-advisory structures.
  • Demonstrated success growing sophisticated strategic relationships and generating new business.
  • Ability to identify unmet client needs and convert opportunities into new mandates, product expansion, and increased assets.
  • Strong understanding of insurance carrier business models and the broader asset management marketplace.
  • Established ability to develop credibility and trusted relationships with senior executives and decision-makers.
  • Strong commercial judgment and experience leading complex business discussions and negotiations.
  • Ability to influence and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and senior stakeholder management skills.
  • Series 7 and Series 63 licenses required.
  • CFA, CAIA, or another relevant professional designation is preferred but not required.

Why This Opportunity

This is an opportunity to take ownership of strategically important relationships within a sophisticated global investment management platform. Rather than serving solely as a relationship manager, this individual will have a clear mandate to originate opportunities, expand existing partnerships, increase assets under management, and drive long-term commercial growth.

The role offers significant exposure to senior client decision-makers as well as investment, product, distribution, and leadership teams internally. It is well suited to an experienced insurance and sub-advisory professional who combines deep industry knowledge with a strong business-development mindset.
