*We are posting this role on behalf of one of our portfolio companies. This role is NOT working for BDI Partners directly. * NO AGENCIES, please.
Role Description The Business Development Manager is a full-time role based in Central Florida for one of BDI's portfolio companies. This role is created specifically to support our next phase of growth.
The successful candidate will build relationships with general contractors, utilities, municipalities, engineering firms, industrial customers, subsurface utility services, and related underground infrastructure services.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven business developer who understands how work is identified, pursued, bid, awarded, and ultimately executed. This individual should be equally comfortable developing new relationships, expanding existing accounts, identifying upcoming projects before they reach the bidding stage, and working closely with Operations and Estimating to convert opportunities into profitable work.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute business development strategies to grow revenue, expand customer base, and strengthen its presence in new markets
- Identify and pursue new customers, projects, and opportunities across underground infrastructure services, including hydro excavation, hydro jetting, CCTV inspection, CIPP rehabilitation, and subsurface utility services
- Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, utilities, municipalities, engineering firms, industrial customers, and other key decision-makers
- Proactively generate qualified leads through customer outreach, networking, referrals, industry events, market research, and early identification of upcoming projects
- Identify and evaluate new geographic markets, develop customer relationships and sales pipelines, and partner with leadership on market-entry strategies and expansion opportunities
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and CRM, tracking opportunities, customer activity, bids, anticipated awards, revenue forecasts, and follow-up activities
- Partner with Estimating and Operations to evaluate opportunities, develop competitive proposals, align customer expectations, and ensure successful project handoffs
- Monitor industry trends, infrastructure spending, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities and provide market intelligence to leadership
- Strengthen existing customer relationships through regular communication, project follow-up, and identification of additional service opportunities
- Drive measurable results through new customer acquisition, pipeline growth, bid activity, win rates, awarded revenue, customer retention, profitability, and successful market expansion
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree inbusiness, Construction Management, Marketing, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant industry experience and a demonstrated track record of business development success may substitute for formal education.
- 5+ years of business development, outside sales, account management, or related experience, preferably within construction, utilities, environmental services, industrial services, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business and build long-term customer relationships.
- Strong understanding of the construction sales cycle and how projects move from identification through estimating, bidding, award, and execution.
- Existing relationships within the construction, utility, municipal, industrial, hydroexcavation or infrastructure markets are strongly preferred.
- Experience developing business within new geographic markets is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, project managers, estimators, executives, and customers.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
