About the Company

The Client is a proudly South African, 51% black-owned technology company that designs and develops intelligent, AI-driven software solutions. The business brings together artificial intelligence, software engineering, process design and commercial understanding to simplify repetitive administration, high-volume processing and routine analysis.

About the Role

The Business Development Team Leader will report to the Group Operations Executive while working closely with the nominated Group executive or commercial contact. The purpose of the role is to generate qualified opportunities and support new business growth across the Group.

This is a hands-on, client-facing business development position focused on researching prospects, approaching decision-makers, conducting discovery meetings, coordinating proposals, maintaining a reliable pipeline and progressing opportunities towards conversion. The role also helps coordinate sales-led marketing activities with resources made available by the relevant businesses.

The successful candidate will be a commercially driven generalist who can quickly understand specialist services, communicate professionally and work independently across several business units. The Team Leader title reflects accountability for driving and coordinating business development activities, with a dedicated team to provide support

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop targeted prospect lists, identify decision-makers and conduct professional outreach by telephone, email, LinkedIn, referrals and networking.
  • Generate qualified leads, arrange client meetings and assess potential opportunities based on client needs, timing and commercial fit.
  • Present approved capabilities of the Group, tailoring the message to the client while referring technical matters to the appropriate specialists.
  • Build professional relationships with prospects, existing client contacts, relevant industry bodies and referral partners.

2. Client Engagement and Sales Conversion

  • Coordinate client meetings, service presentations, capability statements, approved quotations, proposals and tender-related information.
  • Follow up on proposals and outstanding decisions, respond to routine queries, and support commercial negotiations within agreed approval limits.

3. CRM, Sales Pipeline and Performance Reporting

  • Maintain a central, accurate sales pipeline with opportunities clearly attributed to the relevant Group business and recorded in the agreed systems.
  • Capture prospect details, meeting notes, opportunity stages, estimated values, expected closing dates, next steps and accountable stakeholders.
  • Measure prospecting activity, qualified meetings, proposals, conversion rates and business won against realistic, agreed targets.
  • Prepare concise weekly sales progress updates and monthly performance reporting for the designated Group stakeholders.
  • Identify pipeline bottlenecks, overdue follow-ups and poor-quality leads, and recommend corrective action.

4. Sales-Focused Marketing and Brand Coordination

  • Support targeted marketing initiatives that improve awareness and create qualified leads for the Group businesses.
  • Design and build the website, LinkedIn, digital content and client communication requirements with the available internal or external resources.
  • Identify relevant topics for case studies, success stories, events, webinars and client communications, subject to client permission and content approval.
  • Help refine business-specific value propositions, client presentations and sales collateral in consultation with each service owner.
  • Track marketing-generated enquiries and ensure qualified prospects are followed up and reflected in the sales pipeline.

5. Partnerships, Technology Awareness and Market Development

  • Research priority market segments and commercial opportunities for the Group’s services, including opportunities enabled by technology and process improvement.
  • Develop relationships with corporate groups, employer partners, training partners, intermediaries and other appropriate referral sources.
  • Identify cross-selling and referral opportunities within existing client relationships, subject to engagement with the relevant account owner.
  • Support partnership proposals and new service initiatives.

6. Service-Provider Coordination and Professional Responsibilities

  • Prepare professional client correspondence, meeting summaries, follow-up actions, sales reports and supporting commercial documents.
  • Work constructively with stakeholders to understand service delivery capabilities, client priorities and deadlines.

  • Allocate responsibilities, set clear performance expectations, and oversee the execution of sales, marketing, lead generation, and digital marketing activities.
  • Establish and monitor individual and team KPIs, ensuring accountability for deliverables, deadlines, and overall performance.
