What they need

About Earthworm

Earthworm is a group of people who believes we can solve the big issues affecting people and nature today. We work in global supply chains impacting millions of people and places around the world to make the products we buy. We work on the ground, in forests, fields and factories, helping companies, farmers and communities find practical solutions together. And we know that, ultimately, trust and positive changes comes from people getting to work together, hands in the soil.

Your Role

As a BI Developer in Earthworm’s Solution Architects team, you will play a key role in enabling transparent and sustainable supply chains, as a critical bridge between the Global Data Team, field teams, subject matter experts, and partnership managers who work directly with clients committed to traceability and improving practices in their supply chains. You will develop a strong understanding of our organisation’s needs and work to implement scalable, impactful dashboards. You will also contribute to building reliable, high-quality data processes and solutions, supporting data-driven decision-making by Earthworm and by our clients.

Your day-to-day might include:

  • Understanding the needs of clients and internal teams, then translating these needs into technical requirements.
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining Tableau dashboards that meet these technical requirements and guide action on social and environmental challenges.
  • Creating, implementing, reviewing and improving internal data processes to support data visualization and reporting, including data structure, handling and quality controls.
  • Integrating existing data workflows where possible.
  • Supporting the development of existing database systems as needed for data visualization and reporting purposes. You may also be involved in:
  • Creating robust, well-structured, and scalable data solutions for new commodities, products, and internal or external services.
  • Leading data projects and managing relationships with any external partners we work with to deliver data solutions – examples of this include reviews of global work processes or database system development.
  • Supporting various teams with analyses of data to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Exploring new tools & technologies to apply to our data workflows and products (e.g. workflow automation tools, AI, etc.).

Your Profile

You're driven by a desire to create positive impact for people and the planet, and you see technology and data as powerful levers to get there. You also have a passion for local and regional development. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with or managing diverse teams, but can also work independently and take ownership of projects.

You are not afraid to speak up and ask questions, and you welcome being challenged, if it improves your understanding and makes the work better. You take initiative and if you've committed to something, it gets done thoughtfully and thoroughly because you take pride in your work and feel responsible towards the people and places your data ultimately serves. Precision and integrity matter to you, as you'd rather flag a flaw than let it slide, and you hold yourself to the same standard you expect of others.

You ask "why" before "how". Complex systems and dynamic situations draw you in rather than intimidate you, and you're comfortable moving between technical depth and the bigger picture. You also bring a creative streak to problem-solving, as you're drawn to elegant, well-crafted and reliable solutions with your own thoughtful or innovative stamp on them.

Required skills for the role:

  • Extensive experience with Tableau or other data visualisation software
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Advanced Excel skills (including VBA)

Good-to-have skills for the role:

  • Experience in agricultural supply chains, rural development, forestry and conservation, or similar
  • Experience in data engineering and database management
  • Experience with Python, SQL or other programming languages
  • Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS

Workings Conditions

  • Education: Preferable Degree/Masters in Information Science / Data Engineering or relevant field
  • Experience: 3 years minimum
  • Language(s): English & Bahasa Malaysia
  • Employment: Full time (2 year fixed term)
  • Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
