About the Role

Humanex is a Canadian company building next generation AR glasses. Building the technology is only half the work. The other half is deciding where to take it first, who it is for, who might stand in its way, and who would want to help it succeed.

A small company building something new has to understand the world it is entering: the markets, the competitors, the governments and the people who decide what gets funded and bought. It has to see the opportunities clearly, and the threats just as clearly.

This role builds that understanding and turns it into decisions and documents the company can act on. It suits someone who finds that work worth doing for its own sake.

Key Responsibilities

• Research markets, customers and competitors, and keep that picture current as things change
• Work out what the numbers say: what a market is worth, what customers will pay, and whether a way of making money actually holds up
• Follow policy, trade and geopolitics, including tariffs, export rules and government programmes, and explain what each change means for us in plain words
• Anticipate how competitors, governments or others might move against a company our size, including unfair or concealed tactics, so we see them coming and are not caught unprepared
• Find investors, partners and advisers who share our values and would make the company stronger, not just bigger. This means being highly selective and researching them carefully before we approach them
• Prepare grant applications, funding proposals and presentation decks, from first draft to submission
• Keep our strategy documents current, so decisions and the reasoning behind them stay available to the team
• Separate what is known from what is assumed, and say clearly which is which

How This Role Grows

You would start by learning how the company and its technology work, and by keeping our research and documents current. Within your first months you would be drafting real grant applications and briefings that real decisions depend on.

What develops over time is judgment: which signals matter and which are noise, which people are worth approaching, and when a promising opportunity carries a hidden cost. That comes from doing the work, not from waiting until you feel ready.

About You

A fresh graduate in economics, international relations, business, management, political science, physics, engineering, or another technical or science field. We care far more about how your mind works than about your degree. Particularly:

• You want to understand how the world really works. Not only what people say, but why they act the way they do, and who benefits.
• You are motivated by the work itself. Building something that matters is what drives you, more than what the role is called or what it pays.
• You care more about being right than looking right. When you do not understand something, you say so and ask, instead of staying silent to save face. Here, asking is a sign of strength, not weakness.
• You write clearly in English. Much of what you produce will be read by people overseas who have never met you. Your writing has to carry the argument on its own.
• You are careful with evidence. You check where a claim comes from before you repeat it, and you notice when a number does not make sense.
• You will disagree when something is wrong. With a source, with a colleague, or with us. Respectfully, with reasons, and early. This one matters more here than in most companies.
• You are trustworthy with things that matter. You will see real plans, real numbers and real relationships. We need someone who treats that as a responsibility, not an opportunity.
• You recover from being wrong. Many of your first assessments will need revising. That is expected. What matters is whether you get discouraged or get curious.
• You speak up early. When something is not adding up, tell us while the problem is still small.

Being Straight with You

This is an early-stage company. The work is demanding, and some of it is uncomfortable: thinking through how others might try to harm or pressure us is not always pleasant, and telling anyone, whether a teammate or the founder, that they are wrong is not always easy. Here, it is the right thing to do, as long as you explain why you think they are wrong. We would rather be clear about that now.

We pay fairly, and pay grows as you grow, but it will never be the main reason to be here. The people who do well with us are motivated by the work, by learning, and by building something that does not yet exist.
