What they need
We are currently seeking a Business Systems & BI Analyst to join our regional Finance team. This is a rare opportunity to build a firm-wide reporting platform from the ground up and to see your work used every day by the people who run an international law firm. The role can be based in our Prague or Bratislava office, whichever suits you best, with hybrid working in line with the local office policy.
At Kinstellar, we are committed to delivering exceptional client service across Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Southeast Europe (SEE), Central Asia (CA), and Southeast Asia (SEA). With offices in 14 jurisdictions and over 400 local and international lawyers, we handle the most important and complex assignments for clients across diverse industries. As a Business Systems & BI Analyst, you will build the Power BI platform that shows the firm how it is truly performing, and keep the systems behind it dependable. The reporting you create will be in front of management and Finance when decisions are made.
Collaboration and teamwork are highly valued within our firm. As a Business Systems & BI Analyst, you will work closely with our Finance & Business Systems Manager and the wider Finance team, as well as with IT, management and business stakeholders across the firm's offices, and with software vendors and external support providers. You will gain a full view of how an international law firm works, and the scope to shape reporting that colleagues across our offices rely on.
This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will design and implement our Power BI platform rather than inherit someone else's, and you will decide how it is built. Technical strength in Power BI and SQL matters, and so does the ability to listen to a business question and turn it into a report people trust. If you enjoy work where the results are visible and the choices are yours, you will find plenty of both here. The role also involves confidential firm and client data, so care, discretion and accuracy are essential.
Responsibilities include:
- Design, develop and implement the firm's Power BI reporting platform, from data models and measures through to dashboards;
- Create and maintain executive, financial, operational and ad hoc reports, and safeguard the accuracy and consistency of reporting data;
- Work with Finance and business stakeholders to gather and document requirements, and translate them into reporting that answers real questions;
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, views, stored procedures and reporting datasets, and investigate data quality and reporting issues;
- Provide administration support for our Aderant practice management system, including user access, permissions and security roles;
- Support configuration changes, upgrades and testing, coordinating with vendors and external support providers where needed;
- Identify opportunities to improve how the firm works through better use of systems and data.
Key skills and experience required:
- Around 3 or more years of experience in a business intelligence, reporting or business systems role;
- Strong experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI, including data models and measures;
- Advanced SQL query development skills, with solid experience of relational databases and data structures;
- Experience supporting business-critical applications and working directly with Finance and operational stakeholders;
- Experience gathering and documenting business requirements;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with genuine attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy;
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical colleagues, in fluent written and spoken English.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience implementing a Power BI environment or reporting platform from inception;
- Experience administering ERP, finance, professional services or practice management systems;
- Understanding of financial reporting and accounting concepts;
- Experience with data governance and reporting standards;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure data services;
- Experience within a legal or professional services environment;
- Czech, Slovak or another language of the firm's regions is an advantage.
