What they need

We’re looking for a Buyer to join our Procurement team and play a key role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective supply of materials and services to support our manufacturing operations.

This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to manage purchasing activities, develop supplier relationships and contribute to the continuous improvement of our procurement processes. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Production, Engineering, Quality and other business functions to ensure materials are available when needed and meet our quality, cost and delivery requirements.

You’ll be involved in inventory management, supplier performance, sourcing and procurement activities, as well as supporting the ongoing development of our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central system. As part of a small team, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, contribute ideas and make a visible impact as our business grows.

What you’ll be doing

  • Manage purchasing and inventory activities for production components and consumables, using MRP-generated proposals to support production requirements and on-time delivery.
  • Raise, manage and expedite purchase orders to ensure materials and services are delivered in line with agreed quality, cost and delivery requirements.
  • Manage supplier relationships, monitor performance against quality, cost and delivery targets, and work collaboratively to identify and implement improvements.
  • Work closely with the Quality team to support Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) activities.
  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms with suppliers, identifying opportunities to improve value and reduce costs.
  • Support R&D and continuous improvement projects through sourcing, issuing requests for quotation and evaluating supplier proposals.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality and other teams to resolve procurement issues and maintain continuity of supply.
  • Support the ongoing development and improvement of procurement processes and functionality within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Monitor and report on procurement performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Research and evaluate potential suppliers, explore alternative sources of supply and undertake benchmarking activities.
  • Support wider business operations through the purchasing of indirect goods and services, including facilities, office and other business requirements.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company purchasing procedures, ISO 13485 and Quality Management System requirements.

About you

We’re looking for someone who enjoys building supplier relationships, solving problems and working collaboratively to support a busy manufacturing environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Previous experience in procurement, purchasing or supply chain, ideally within a manufacturing environment, with the ability to manage day-to-day purchasing activities independently.
  • A relevant degree, CIPS qualification or equivalent practical procurement experience.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems to support purchasing and inventory management.
  • An understanding of the components, materials and manufacturing processes used within regulated or quality controlled production environments.
  • Technical aptitude, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and component requirements to support purchasing decisions.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and support informed decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • An organised and methodical approach to managing priorities and resolving problems.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with colleagues, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • A proactive, flexible and hands on approach, with a willingness to learn and contribute to continuous improvement.

Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.

A full UK driving licence would also be beneficial, as occasional travel to supplier sites may be required.

If you have relevant purchasing or supply chain experience and believe your skills could transfer to this role, we’d be interested in hearing from you.
