About the role

We’re working with a specialist technology consultancy looking for a C++ Technical Lead to support a major re-platforming programme at a global financial markets technology organisation.

The programme is focused on modernising the systems responsible for processing and distributing real-time financial market data. This involves building high-performance, scalable and reliable technology that supports critical financial markets infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You’ll be working closely with a team of engineers, contributing to the design and development of complex C++ systems while providing technical direction and ensuring high engineering standards.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the design and development of high-performance applications using modern C++
• Remain hands-on with coding, code reviews and technical problem-solving
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of software engineers
• Help modernise existing systems and develop new platform capabilities
• Work on performance-critical systems processing large volumes of real-time data
• Drive engineering best practices around testing, code quality and maintainability
• Work closely with architects, engineers and stakeholders to deliver technical solutions
• Support the delivery of reliable, scalable software into production

What they’re looking for

• Strong commercial C++ development experience, ideally with modern C++
• Experience in a Technical Lead, Lead Engineer or Principal Engineer position
• Strong understanding of C++ development, including STL, Boost and associated tooling
• Experience building high-performance, low-latency or real-time systems
• Strong Linux development experience
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals, including testing, software design and clean code
• Experience leading technical decisions and supporting other engineers
• Financial markets, market data or electronic trading experience would be beneficial

You do not need to have spent your entire career in financial services. They are particularly interested in strong C++ engineers who have worked on complex, performance-critical systems and are comfortable combining hands-on development with technical leadership.
