What they need
Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Cabinet Maker to join our team. This position is responsible for building high-quality cabinetry accurately and efficiently while maintaining the standards our customers expect.
The right person for this role takes pride in their work and pays attention to the details that make the difference between acceptable work and excellent work. We are looking for someone who notices when something isn't right, takes ownership of correcting it, and cares about the quality of the finished product.
Just as important, we are looking for someone with a continuous improvement mindset. We want someone who is willing to learn, open to feedback, and regularly thinks about how we can improve our quality, processes, organization, and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret cabinet drawings, plans, measurements, and job specifications.
- Accurately cut, machine, assemble, and fit cabinet components.
- Operate woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools safely and properly.
- Build cabinetry to established dimensions and quality standards.
- Pay close attention to fit, alignment, dimensions, finish, and overall workmanship.
- Inspect your own work throughout the building process rather than relying on someone else to catch mistakes.
- Identify quality issues and correct them before the product moves to the next step.
- Take ownership of your work and follow each job through with a focus on doing it right the first time.
- Keep tools, materials, and work areas clean and organized.
- Work effectively with other team members to keep jobs moving through the shop.
- Communicate problems, questions, or potential issues before they become larger problems.
- Follow established shop processes while looking for opportunities to make those processes better.
- Suggest practical improvements that could improve quality, safety, organization, or efficiency.
- Help create a shop environment where everyone takes pride in their work and works together to continually improve.
Qualifications
- Cabinetmaking, woodworking, manufacturing, or related experience is preferred.
- Ability to accurately read measurements, drawings, and job specifications.
- Experience using woodworking machinery, hand tools, and power tools is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good problem-solving skills and willingness to identify the cause of a problem rather than simply working around it.
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage responsibilities with limited supervision.
- Willingness to learn new equipment, techniques, and processes.
- Ability to accept feedback and use it to improve.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to safely lift and handle cabinet parts, materials, and finished products.
What We're Really Looking For
Experience is valuable, but mindset matters just as much to us.
We are looking for someone who:
- Notices the little things.
- Takes pride in doing quality work.
- Doesn't knowingly pass a problem on to the next person.
- Takes responsibility when a mistake happens and helps solve it.
- Wants to understand why something went wrong so it doesn't keep happening.
- Is willing to learn and try better ways of doing things.
- Keeps their workspace organized and takes care of equipment.
- Understands that quality and efficiency can go hand in hand.
- Doesn't settle for "that's how we've always done it."
- Makes small improvements every day that help the entire shop get better.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Cabinet Maker on our team consistently produces accurate, high-quality work while helping the people and processes around them improve.
You should take satisfaction not only in building a great cabinet, but also in leaving the job, your workstation, and the process a little better than you found it.
