POSITION INFO: About the Role Our client, a leading South African technology and infrastructure provider, is seeking a hands-on Cabling Technician to join their regional deployment team. This role is responsible for the physical installation, termination, and testing of structured data and fiber optic cabling across diverse commercial and industrial environments. You will play a vital role in establishing the connectivity foundations for high-level telecoms, network, and security installations. Key Responsibilities Install, route, and dress structured network cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber optic cables through various containments including conduits, trunking, and ceiling voids. Securely mount PVC trunking, galvanized wire trays, and conduit pipes in accordance with industry neatness standards. Terminate cabling on RJ45 connectors, wall plates, and patch panels, ensuring adherence to T568A/T568B standards. Perform fiber optic splicing and termination (fusion and mechanical) as required. Assemble and organize 19-inch server racks, wall-mounted cabinets, and cable management systems. Test and certify network drops using cable analyzers (e.g., Fluke) and perform optical continuity tests on fiber runs. Troubleshoot and repair cabling faults, damaged terminations, or signal loss issues. Interpret floor plans and schematic diagrams to plan and execute accurate cable runs. Ensure all site work complies with South African Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and working-at-heights regulations. Requirements Grade 12 / Matric Certificate. Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience in structured cabling (Ethernet and Fiber) installations. Valid South African Code 08 (Class B) Driver's License (essential). Proficiency in using cable certifiers, OTDR, or light meters. Physical ability to work on ladders/scaffolding and operate in confined spaces or ceiling environments. High standard of workmanship with a focus on precision and neatness. Resident in the Vaal area (e.g., Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg, Meyerton). FOA, BICSI, or vendor-specific cabling certifications (e.g., Molex, CommScope) would be a significant advantage.
