What they need

Here at The Exploration Company, we are building innovative aerospace technologies that advance the future of space transportation.

To support our growth, we are looking for a CAD & PLM Administration Intern to join our team in Munich. In this hands-on role, you will help establish and maintain our CAD standard part library, provide first-level support to engineering users, and contribute to the documentation of CAD and PLM processes.

Role overview

As a CAD & PLM Administration Intern, you will work closely with our engineering, CAD, PLM, and IT teams to help keep our design data and product lifecycle processes organised, accessible, and efficient.

Your primary focus will be supporting the creation and continuous improvement of a standard part library for CAD users. You will also act as a first point of contact for basic user requests and help create clear, practical documentation that enables our engineering teams to work effectively in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in CAD data management, PLM administration, engineering processes, and technical support while contributing to the development of a real space vehicle.

Key responsibilities

CAD and PLM administration

  • Support the creation, organisation, and maintenance of structured CAD and PLM data.
  • Support the setup and maintenance of CAD templates, standard part libraries, drafting standards, preferences, and other engineering environment settings.
  • Work with engineers and designers to identify opportunities to improve CAD workflows, data quality, reuse, and user experience.
  • Assist with testing and documenting changes to CAD and PLM processes, configurations, and system settings.
  • Gain hands-on experience with Siemens NX administration, including configuration concepts, customer defaults, role-based settings, templates, and environment configuration.
  • Learn about Siemens NX customization and automation possibilities under the guidance of experienced team members, for example through journals, reusable tools, interface settings, or workflow improvements.
  • Contribute to guidelines and best practices for CAD and PLM usage, including the appropriate use of standard parts and reusable engineering content.

Documentation and process support

  • Create and maintain user guides, how-to instructions, process descriptions, and FAQs.
  • Document CAD and PLM procedures in a clear and accessible way.
  • Support the preparation of training material for new and existing users.

General CAD and PLM administration and support

  • Assist with routine administration and monitoring tasks in the CAD and PLM environment under supervision.
  • Support users and create documentation based on frequent support requests
  • Work with engineering, PLM, CAD, and IT colleagues to improve data quality and user experience.

What we're looking for

Required

  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Basic experience with Siemens NX and strong interest in CAD, engineering data management, PLM, or technical systems administration.
  • Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with structured data and technical information.
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Nice to have

  • Basic familiarity with PLM concepts or systems such as Siemens Teamcenter.
  • Experience with C# and .Net, Powershell
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawing standards, part numbering, metadata, or configuration management.
