What they need

About the role

Working alongside our sales, pricing and construction teams, you'll help turn customer concepts into accurate, buildable plans and ensure the technical and administrative requirements of each project are well managed. This is a varied role suited to someone with building or renovation industry experience who enjoys combining technical design, accurate documentation and project administration.

Key responsibilities

  • Taking initiative and producing accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, plans, elevations and construction details.
  • Preparing and updating drawings throughout the design and construction process.
  • Translating site measurements, concepts and specifications into practical, buildable documentation.
  • Supporting our team with design and technical documentation.
  • Preparing documentation for pricing, construction and subcontractors.
  • Assisting with quantity take-offs and project costing.
  • Coordinating technical information with designers, project managers, trades and suppliers.
  • Managing building consent and consent exemption requirements, applications, including preparation and coordination of supporting documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate project files, specifications and records for handover following the completion of projects.
  • Providing general technical and project administration support.

About you

  • Previous experience in the building, construction or bathroom or kitchen industry.
  • CAD drafting or technical design experience — familiarity with SketchUp or Winner Flex is a plus but not required.
  • A good understanding of residential construction methods and terminology.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • An understanding of plans, interpreting specifications, measurements and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of building consent processes would be a strong advantage.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • A previous background in residential renovations, architectural drafting, quantity surveying, construction administration or building would be particularly valuable.

Why Join Butterfield?

This is an opportunity to join a business with a very positive future and clear growth ambitions.

What’s on offer:

  • A stable, established, growing Christchurch renovation business with plans to expand beyond Canterbury and develop a national presence.
  • Genuine opportunity for your role and responsibilities to grow as the business grows.
  • Exposure to the complete renovation process — from initial concept and design through to construction and completion.
  • A varied role where you can make a meaningful contribution rather than being limited to one narrow function.
  • Modern systems and an ongoing focus on improving how we design, document and deliver projects.
  • A supportive team environment with sales, design, technical and construction expertise working together.
  • Opportunities to develop your skills across CAD, design, estimating, quantity surveying, consenting and project coordination.
