What they need

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is a 100% employee-owned engineering services and solutions company delivering high-demand technical expertise in digital transformation, modeling and simulation, rapid capability development, test and evaluation, artificial intelligence, autonomy, cybersecurity, and mission assurance. MTSI partners with government and industry customers to solve complex technical challenges and advance critical national security missions.

Position Overview

MTSI is seeking a CAD Modeler / Design Engineer to support government customers in developing detailed three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) models related to mission requirements. The successful candidate will support mechanical design assessments, evaluate component integration and compatibility, and prepare technical memoranda documenting design findings and recommendations.

This position requires strong SolidWorks (or comparable modeling software) modeling skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with customer engineering teams to ensure models meet established design standards, interface requirements, and technical specifications. The candidate will also help establish and improve Parts Data Management (PDM) standards and processes to support consistent, efficient, and traceable engineering workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models of missile systems, mission-related components, and subassemblies using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
  • Prepare technical memoranda documenting physical design assessments, component characteristics, interface considerations, and engineering findings.
  • Ensure CAD models comply with customer-defined design standards, modeling conventions, templates, and documentation requirements.
  • Verify component fit, form, and interface compatibility with larger assemblies and associated subsystems in accordance with applicable design requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews with the customer’s vehicle design team to validate model accuracy, resolve discrepancies, incorporate feedback, and support acceptance of completed models.
  • Support the development, documentation, and implementation of Parts Data Management (PDM) standards, requirements, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers, systems engineers, analysts, and other technical personnel to resolve modeling issues and improve design consistency and productivity.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and traceable CAD models and associated technical data in accordance with customer processes and applicable configuration management requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience developing 3D CAD models using SolidWorks or comparable modeling software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design requirements and translate them into accurate CAD models.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality technical products.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work directly with customer engineering teams, incorporate technical feedback, and resolve design discrepancies.
  • A proactive, conscientious work ethic and the ability to contribute to improved CAD modeling efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in mechanical design, engineering analysis, or related disciplines.
  • Five or more years of experience developing 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
  • Professional experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools and associated engineering analysis methods.
  • Experience using SolidWorks PDM or comparable product data management and configuration management systems.
  • Experience conducting intelligence analysis or supporting intelligence-related missions.
  • One or more of the following SolidWorks certifications:
  • Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA)
  • Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional (CSWP)
  • Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE)

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Security Clearance Requirements

  • Active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to applicable security and contract requirements.
