About Edgecombe Furniture

Edgecombe Furniture has been manufacturing high-quality upholstered seating furniture for the commercial and hospitality industries since 1930. As our company continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented CAD Pattern Developer to join our Product Development team.

We are looking for a skilled professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, works with urgency, takes ownership of projects, and collaborates closely with production teams to bring new products from concept to manufacturing.

Furniture manufacturing experience is not required. We welcome candidates with transferable CAD pattern development experience from apparel, automotive seating, marine upholstery, textiles, industrial sewing, and other sewn-product manufacturing industries.

Position Summary

The CAD Pattern Developer will be responsible for creating, modifying, digitizing, and maintaining accurate digital patterns used in the manufacturing of upholstered furniture.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Gerber AccuMark, Lectra Modaris, Optitex, Tukatech, or comparable CAD pattern-making software, along with a strong understanding of pattern construction, sewing processes, cutting layouts, and material utilization.

This is a hands-on, deadline-driven position requiring technical accuracy, resourcefulness, strong communication, and the ability to work directly with Product Development, Sewing, Cutting, Upholstery, and Production teams.

Candidates must provide a portfolio or examples of CAD pattern development work demonstrating their technical skills and experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, create, digitize, modify, and maintain accurate CAD patterns for upholstered furniture components.
  • Translate product designs, technical drawings, measurements, specifications, and physical samples into production-ready patterns.
  • Develop complete cover patterns for seats, backs, arms, cushions, seat decks, and other upholstered components.
  • Create and adjust seam allowances, notches, alignment points, and other construction details to ensure accurate sewing and assembly.
  • Generate and optimize cutting layouts and markers to maximize fabric utilization and minimize material waste.
  • Collaborate closely with Sewing, Cutting, Upholstery, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure patterns are accurate, practical, and efficient to manufacture.
  • Work directly with production personnel to troubleshoot fit, sewing, cutting, and assembly issues.
  • Make timely pattern revisions and corrections based on prototype evaluations, production feedback, and design changes.
  • Participate in product development, sample reviews, fit evaluations, and new product introductions.
  • Ensure patterns and technical documentation are complete, accurate, and ready for production.
  • Maintain organized digital pattern files, revisions, specifications, and development records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve pattern accuracy, reduce material waste, streamline processes, and minimize rework.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines and shifting production priorities.
  • Communicate proactively with supervisors and cross-functional teams regarding project progress, technical challenges, and required corrections.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and follow through from initial development to successful production implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience in CAD pattern development, pattern making, pattern digitizing, or technical pattern design.
  • Experience using Gerber AccuMark, Lectra Modaris, Optitex, Tukatech, or similar CAD pattern-making software.
  • Ability to create and modify digital patterns accurately.
  • Understanding of pattern construction, measurements, seam allowances, notches, and cutting layouts.
  • Knowledge of fabric behavior, sewing construction, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and measurements.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, particularly when collaborating with production personnel.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow projects through completion.
  • Must be available to work full-time, on-site in Greenville, NC.
  • Must submit a portfolio or examples of previous CAD pattern development work for consideration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Gerber AccuMark.
  • Experience independently developing complete patterns from concept through production.
  • Background in upholstery, apparel, automotive seating, marine upholstery, textile manufacturing, or industrial sewn products.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems, marker making, nesting, and fabric cutting optimization.
  • Hands-on knowledge of industrial sewing, fabric cutting, or product prototyping.
  • Experience collaborating directly with manufacturing or production teams.
  • Experience troubleshooting pattern fit and construction issues.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement, production efficiency, and material waste reduction.
