Job overview

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and organised Café Assistant to join the team at Mardle Café, based within Cromer Hospital.

This is a customer-facing role, serving hospital staff, patients and visitors. We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in good service, and can help keep the café clean, stocked and running smoothly throughout the day.

The role will include serving customers, preparing hot and cold drinks, supporting with light food preparation, using the till, and helping the team deliver a welcoming café service.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner
• Take orders accurately and serve customers efficiently
• Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks, including tea and coffee
• Support with light food preparation, including baguettes, toasties, breakfast items, pastries and other café items
• Keep the counter, service areas and customer areas clean, tidy and well presented
• Refill stock, displays and grab-and-go items throughout the day
• Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times
• Use the till system and handle payments accurately
• Work well during busy periods and support the wider team when needed
• Maintain a positive and helpful approach with all customers

What we are looking for

• Previous café, catering, barista or customer service experience is essential
• A friendly and confident approach to customer service
• Good communication skills
• Reliable, punctual and organised
• Able to work well as part of a small team
• Comfortable working in a busy customer-facing environment
• Willing to learn and follow food safety procedures
• Able to maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation
