What they need
We’re looking for the third person at brew’d.
Café Manager
£30,000 per year | 40 hours per week | York Designer Outlet
brew’d is an independent coffee shop built around great coffee, great food, brilliant hospitality and being a genuinely nice place to spend time.
We’re still a young business, we’re growing, and we’re looking for someone pretty important.
Right now, there are two of us leading brew’d. We’re looking for the third.
This isn’t really an Assistant Manager job. We need someone who can take genuine ownership of the shop, lead our team and run brew’d brilliantly when we’re not there.
You’ll make coffee. You’ll clear tables. You’ll jump on pot wash when everything goes sideways. We’re not interested in managers who manage from the sidelines.
But you’ll also take responsibility for the things that make the place work: standards, service, people, training, stock, organisation and the thousand little things that happen every day in a busy coffee shop.
Who we’re looking for
We’re much more interested in the person than the job titles on your CV.
You’ll probably have good hospitality experience and some experience leading people, but you don’t necessarily need to have been a Café Manager before. We're more interested in the right person with the right attitude than the perfect CV match.
You might currently be an Assistant Manager, Shift Manager, Supervisor or Head Barista who’s ready to take the next step. Or you've got the willing, the drive and are ready to take the next step and throw yourself in at the deep end.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Genuinely brilliant with people
- Calm and level-headed when it gets busy
- Organised, dependable and switched on
- Comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility
- Particular about standards and doing things properly
- Confident giving feedback and developing a team
- Happy to get stuck into whatever needs doing
- Interested in coffee, hospitality and building something
Most importantly, we want someone who cares.
About the coffee. About the customers. About the team. About whether the tables are clean. About why something isn’t working. About making tomorrow slightly better than today.
What you’ll actually do.
You’ll work closely with George and Olly to run the day-to-day operation of brew’d.
That’ll include leading shifts, developing the team, maintaining standards, training people, managing stock and helping make sure the shop runs brilliantly whether we’re there or not.
You’ll have real responsibility, but you’ll also have the freedom to bring ideas, challenge how we do things and help shape the way brew’d operates.
Over time, we’d like you to take more ownership.
brew’d is still young and we’ve got plenty we want to do with it. There isn’t a predetermined corporate ladder or a five-year progression chart.
When brew’d grows, we want this person to grow with it.
The important bits
Salary: £29,000-32,000 per year
Incentives: Performance based, you grow with the business.
Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: brew’d, York Designer Outlet
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hospitality means some early starts and weekends, but we also believe people should be able to have a life outside of work.
Sound like you?
Send us your CV, but don’t spend three hours writing a cover letter.
Instead, we’d love you to answer three questions:
1. What’s the best hospitality business you’ve ever worked in or visited, and what made it brilliant?
2. It’s Saturday, we’re absolutely slammed, two people have called in sick and there’s a queue out the door. What do you do?
3. Why brew’d?
We’re not looking for perfect answers.
We’re looking for our person.
Pay: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
- Discounted or free food
- Employee discount
- Flexible schedule

- We are based at York Designer Outlet. Please confirm you'd be able to travel to this location on a regular basis.
