Calibration Laboratory Technician

QICR | Roma, Queensland

Full-time | Monday to Friday | 7:00am–3:00pm

$80,000–$85,000 + Superannuation

About QICR

QICR is a specialist calibration and testing business based in Roma, Queensland. Operating a NATA-accredited laboratory, we provide calibration, testing and certification services to customers across the oil and gas, industrial and agricultural sectors.

We're looking for a reliable, organised and detail-focused Calibration Laboratory Technician to join our team.

This is a varied role combining hands-on technical work, customer service and laboratory administration.

Whether you're an experienced technician or someone with strong organisational and technical aptitude looking to develop new skills, we'd like to hear from you.

Previous calibration experience is not essential, with full training provided to the right applicant.

About the role

Working from our Roma laboratory, you'll be involved in the day-to-day delivery of our calibration and testing services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Calibrating pressure gauges, torque wrenches and other test equipment in accordance with documented procedures.
  • Assisting with the testing and setting of pressure safety and relief valves (PSVs, PRVs and VRVs).
  • Servicing, bump testing and calibrating portable gas detectors, with specialised training provided.
  • Accurately recording test results and preparing calibration certificates and service reports.
  • Receiving, registering, tracking and dispatching customer equipment.
  • Responding to customer enquiries, preparing quotes and providing updates on job progress.
  • Assisting with invoicing, stock control and general laboratory administration.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised laboratory in accordance with quality procedures.

You'll work with specialised testing equipment and software while developing your understanding of measurement accuracy, calibration standards and quality systems.

About you

We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys learning and understands the importance of accuracy and attention to detail.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Excellent attention to detail – you notice when numbers, measurements, serial numbers or dates don't match.
  • Confident computer skills – you're comfortable using email, Microsoft Word, Excel and learning new systems.
  • Accuracy and consistency – you can maintain complete records and follow documented procedures without taking shortcuts.
  • Good organisational skills – you can manage multiple jobs, prioritise workloads and meet customer turnaround times.
  • Clear communication skills – you're professional and friendly when dealing with customers by phone and email.
  • Basic numeracy – you're comfortable working with measurements, units, readings and tolerances.
  • Reliability and initiative – you're punctual, dependable and comfortable working independently or as part of a small team.
  • A willingness to learn – you're interested in developing specialised technical skills and taking on new responsibilities.

Desirable experience

While not essential, experience in any of the following areas would be highly regarded:

  • Oil and gas industry operations, equipment or services.
  • Calibration, instrumentation or laboratory testing.
  • Mechanical trades, workshop operations or equipment servicing.
  • Quality assurance, inspection or working within documented quality management systems.
  • Technical administration, equipment tracking or service coordination.

A current driver's licence is preferred.

You don't need previous calibration experience to apply. We value attention to detail, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn just as highly as existing technical experience.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary of $80,000–$85,000 + superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
  • Monday to Friday, 7:00am–3:00pm, with no weekend work.
  • Permanent, full-time employment based in Roma.
  • Comprehensive on-the-job training in calibration methods, testing equipment and laboratory procedures.
  • Opportunities for further technical training and professional development.
  • A varied position combining practical technical work, problem-solving and administration.
  • A supportive, small-team working environment.
  • The opportunity to develop valuable specialist skills in an established local business.
