Campus Transportation Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and responsible Campus Transportation Operator to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for students on our campus. In this role, you will operate various types of vehicles including shuttles, vans, and buses, adhering to all safety regulations and traffic laws. Your primary goal will be to provide excellent customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety and vehicle operation. Responsibilities

• Safely operate campus shuttle buses, vans, and other authorized vehicles along designated routes on city streets and campus grounds.
• Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after each shift to ensure safety and proper functioning of all equipment.
• Assist passengers with boarding, including providing special needs support and passenger safety assistance as needed.
• Maintain clear communication with dispatch via two-way radios to coordinate routes, report issues, or respond to emergencies promptly.
• Follow all transportation safety regulations, including DOT (Department of Transportation) and state transportation laws, especially when driving in adverse weather conditions.
• Navigate efficiently through city streets and campus routes while adhering to traffic laws and defensive driving principles.
• Complete accurate logs of trips, vehicle inspections, passenger counts, and incident reports as required by transportation safety regulations.
• Provide excellent customer service by addressing passenger questions or concerns professionally and courteously during transit operations.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience with commercial driving or shuttle driving preferred.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and mechanical knowledge is a plus.
• Experience operating motor coaches, school buses, or delivery vans is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with traffic laws, air brake systems, and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations governing commercial drivers.
• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with passengers and dispatch personnel via two-way radios.
• Ability to perform vehicle inspections thoroughly and identify maintenance needs proactively.
• Proven ability to drive safely in adverse weather conditions while maintaining passenger safety at all times.
• Customer service orientation with a focus on passenger assistance and special needs support.
• Knowledge of city street navigation combined with excellent driving skills in busy campus environments.
• Previous experience as a van driver or delivery driver is advantageous; bilingual skills are a plus but not required.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
