SUMMARY
The Care Associate works in a Catholic residential setting called a priory (similar to a monastery). This role requires deep respect for the priests and brothers in our care, the ability to adapt to both slow and fast-paced situations, safe medication administration, and careful handling of confidential information. Experience in home health care or residential care is preferred, though comparable health care experience will also be considered. A strong record of reliability and the ability to build positive relationships with residents and staff are essential to supporting a collaborative care environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including mobility, grooming, and personal care.
● Provide comprehensive support with all aspects of resident care, including routine and as-needed (PRN) medication administration.
● Measure and record vital signs and clinical indicators (including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, body weight, and blood glucose) as scheduled or required.
● Conduct monthly inventories of clinical supplies and medications according to schedule.
● Drive and accompany residents to healthcare appointments, urgent care, and/or the Emergency Department as needed.
● Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Care Station, Care Room, and Care Team closets/cabinets.
● Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and comfort of patient rooms.
● Promptly report any behavioral, cognitive, or physical health changes to the supervisor.
● Prioritize resident safety at all times, strictly adhering to medication administration standards and emergency protocols.
REQUIRED SKILLS
● Clinical Knowledge: Solid understanding of elder care, aging-in-place, and common geriatric conditions.
● Communication: Excellent and prompt verbal and written communication skills in-person, as well as via email, smartphone, and Microsoft Teams.
● Documentation: Proficient in both digital (computer-based) and handwritten clinical documentation and charting.
● Organization & Time Management: Strong organizational skills, supply management capabilities, and excellent time management.
● Problem Solving: Flexible, timely problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
● Adaptability: Ability to effectively prioritize competing demands and manage complex, dynamic situations.
● Schedule Flexibility: Adaptive to shifting scheduling needs, including rotation through holidays and weekends.
● Professional Growth: A lifelong learner who welcomes constructive feedback for professional development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Civilian Pathway: Active certification/licensure as a CNA, LPN/LVN, EMT, Paramedic, or Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
● Military Equivalency Pathway: Honorable Service in an equivalent Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) or Rate, verified via DD-214 (see Military Appendix below).
MILITARY APPENDIX
● Recency: Honorable discharge or retirement must have occurred within 12 months of application for this position.
● Specialty Requirement: Most recent service must have been in a health-related MOS or Rate earned through a formal military resident course (not through On-the-Job Training/OJT). Qualifying specialties include:
○ US Army Medicine (AMEDD): Medic (68W), Practical Nursing Specialist (68C) or Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D)
○ US Navy Hospital Corps: Corpsman (HM), Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC), or Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman (SOIDC/SARC)
○ US Air Force / US Coast Guard: Documented medical equivalents
● Verification: The qualifying MOS or Rate must be explicitly noted on the applicant's DD-214.
● Contingency Note: Applicants hired under the Military Equivalency pathway are required to earn one of the approved civilian credentials listed under Required Qualifications within 12 months of their hire date to maintain continued employment.
