What they need

Description

Who We Are: The core of our identity is a commitment to exceeding our clients’ expectations through employee well-being. We realize that our success starts and ends with our employees, so we have built a culture focused on empowerment and collaboration. We challenge each employee to achieve their full potential through career advancement initiatives, a focus on work-life balance, and a team approach to projects. Based in Lancaster, PA, and Ellicott City, MD, we are a Commercial General Contractor that is formed by our hardworking, driven, and relationship-oriented team.

Who You Are: You’re motivated to build a career in the construction trades and excited to learn from experienced professionals in the field. You show up ready to work, take direction well, and aren’t afraid to ask questions. You take pride in doing things the right way—working safely, paying attention to detail, and supporting your team. You’re dependable, eager to grow your skills, and enjoy hands‑on work in a fast‑paced jobsite environment.

Your Impact

As a Carpenter Assistant, you’ll support carpenters and field leadership while learning the fundamentals of commercial construction. This role provides structured on‑the‑job training and exposure to a wide range of carpentry tasks under supervision.

  • Learn the Trade: Participate in on‑the‑job training and Benchmark University development opportunities, including safety and skill‑building courses.
  • Support Carpentry Work: Assist with layout, framing, forming, demolition, and installation of interior and exterior finishes under supervision.
  • Material Prep & Handling: Measure, mark, cut, and prepare materials using hand and power tools as directed.
  • Quality & Safety: Follow all safety policies, use PPE, and support quality workmanship standards at all times.
  • Jobsite Readiness: Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient jobsite; identify hazards and report concerns promptly.
  • Grow & Develop: Work closely with experienced carpenters, learning techniques, tools, and expectations that support long‑term career growth.

What You Bring (Experiences & Qualifications)

Above all, you are hungry, humble, and people-smart.

  • Relevant Experience: Brings at least one (1) year of construction experience, vocational training, or technical school coursework, or an equivalent level of hands‑on exposure.
  • Career Interest: Demonstrates genuine interest in building a long‑term career in commercial construction or the skilled trades.
  • Communication Skills: Able to understand, follow, and act on verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Tool Familiarity: Possesses a basic understanding of hand and power tools or shows a strong willingness to learn proper and safe use.
  • Dependability: Maintains reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
  • Work Ethic & Teamwork: Brings a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a team‑first mindset to the jobsite every day.

Why Choose Benchmark?

  • A Culture Built to Care: At Benchmark, taking care of people isn’t a tagline; it’s a core value. Through our Built to Care initiative, we focus on your whole well-being: mental, physical, financial, emotional, and professional. When our people thrive, our projects and communities do too.
  • A Strong Team Environment: You’ll join a team that genuinely enjoys working together. We have each other's backs. We celebrate often, and create space for everyone to belong, whether at picnics, appreciation events, or spontaneous “just because” moments.
  • Wellbeing That Means Something: Enjoy wellness support that goes far beyond the basics: free and unlimited counseling sessions for you and your dependents, an on‑site fitness center, nutritional services, biometric screenings, and a strong focus on safety so everyone goes home healthy.
  • Growth & Development at Every Stage: Through Benchmark University, Leadership Development, career pathing, personal development plans, tuition reimbursement, and access to professional groups, you’ll have clear ways to learn, grow, and lead — from day one and throughout your career.
  • Innovative, Forward-Thinking Work: Construction is always evolving, and so are we. You’ll work with modern tools, technology, and systems that keep us ahead of the curve.
  • Your Voice Matters Here: Between our Mentorship Program, employee resource groups, and cross‑company collaboration, you have real opportunities to shape the direction of Benchmark and make a meaningful impact.
  • A Dynamic Industry: Every day brings something new — new challenges, new wins, new opportunities to build what matters. If you love variety, problem‑solving, and working with great people, you’ll love it here.
