What they need

OVERVIEW

Cedar Craft Sauna is looking for a Carpenter with at least 3 years of carpentry experience to join our growing team.

This position is a great opportunity for a carpenter who has a foundation in both rough and/or finish carpentry and wants to continue developing their skills by working alongside experienced finish carpenters on high-quality, custom projects.

You don't need to consider yourself a master carpenter, and you don't need previous sauna experience. We're looking for someone who has developed a solid understanding of construction, knows how to use their tools, can work independently on basic tasks, and is eager to learn from more experienced carpenters.

As a Carpenter at Cedar Craft Sauna, you will work alongside our Lead Carpenter and other members of the crew to build, remodel, repair, and maintain custom saunas throughout the Greater Seattle area.

Our projects involve a combination of finish carpentry, demolition, limited framing, insulation, cedar installation, custom bench construction, trim, and specialty sauna work. Because every project is different, you'll have the opportunity to develop skills across a wide range of construction techniques.

This position is particularly well suited for someone who wants to become a better finish carpenter and craftsman. You'll work closely with experienced carpenters who can teach you better techniques, help you develop an eye for detail, and give you the opportunity to take on increasingly complex work as your skills improve.

We're a small and growing company, so the right person will have an opportunity to grow with the company and take on more responsibility.

ABOUT CEDAR CRAFT SAUNA

Cedar Craft Sauna's mission is to make America's saunas better.

We are a specialty construction company that exclusively works on saunas. We perform sauna remodels, repairs, maintenance, and new builds for residential and commercial customers throughout the Greater Seattle area.

Because we specialize exclusively in saunas, we care about details that a general contractor may overlook—from the way cedar is installed and benches are built to proper insulation, vapor barriers, ventilation, heater clearances, and the overall functionality of the space.

We're building a company around quality craftsmanship, specialized knowledge, and pride in the work we leave behind.

We're looking for people who want to become excellent at their trade and want to build something with a small company rather than simply work another construction job.

BENEFITS

  • $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skill
  • Quarterly bonus eligibility
  • Paid time off (PTO)
  • Full-time W-2 employment
  • Consistent work throughout the Greater Seattle area
  • Hands-on training and mentorship from experienced carpenters
  • Opportunity to develop your finish carpentry skills
  • Opportunity to learn specialized sauna construction
  • Opportunity to grow within the company
  • Work focused on craftsmanship rather than high-volume production
  • Opportunity to work on unique, custom projects

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work alongside the Lead Carpenter to complete sauna construction, remodel, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Perform finish carpentry and some rough carpentry tasks based on your experience and skill level.
  • Read and follow project plans, layouts, measurements, and instructions.
  • Perform demolition and jobsite preparation as required.
  • Perform basic framing and rough carpentry tasks.
  • Measure, cut, fit, and install lumber and other construction materials.
  • Install insulation and vapor barriers.
  • Install interior sauna wall and ceiling cladding, including tongue-and-groove cedar.
  • Build and install custom sauna benches.
  • Perform finish carpentry, including trim, scribing, fitting, and detail work.
  • Install sauna doors, hardware, and other components.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Learn and apply Cedar Craft Sauna's construction methods and finish standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and professional jobsites.
  • Protect finished surfaces, materials, and clients' property while working in occupied homes and commercial spaces.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials at job sites.
  • Identify potential problems and communicate them to the Lead Carpenter.
  • Ask questions and seek guidance when encountering unfamiliar work.
  • Accept feedback and make corrections when necessary.
  • Work cooperatively with other members of the crew.
  • Take increasing ownership of tasks and portions of projects as your skills develop.
  • Follow applicable safety requirements and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Represent Cedar Craft Sauna professionally when working with clients.
  • Take pride in the quality of the finished product.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of professional carpentry or construction experience.
  • Experience using common hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and work from measurements.
  • Basic understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • Ability to perform carpentry tasks with reasonable independence.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow direction while also thinking critically about the work.
  • Willingness to learn from more experienced carpenters.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and make improvements.
  • Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
  • Professional and respectful attitude when working in clients' homes and commercial properties.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
  • Ability to work a consistent 8:00 AM–4:00 PM schedule
  • Ability to perform physically demanding construction work, including lifting 50–75+ lbs.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willing and able to pass a background check.

Preferred

  • Finish carpentry experience
  • Rough carpentry and framing experience
  • Door installation experience
  • Experience with remodeling and renovation work
  • Experience working with cedar or other specialty wood products
  • Experience with custom woodworking
  • Experience reading construction drawings or detailed layouts
  • Previous sauna construction experience
  • Formal carpentry training, trade school, or apprenticeship

IDEAL CANDIDATE

You may currently be working as a carpenter, remodeling carpenter, framing carpenter, finish carpenter, or general construction carpenter.

You have at least a few years of experience and have developed a basic understanding of the trade, but you're looking for an opportunity where you can continue learning rather than doing the same tasks over and over.

You enjoy working with your hands and care about craftsmanship. You'd like to become more comfortable with finish carpentry, custom woodworking, and detail-oriented work.

You understand that becoming an excellent carpenter takes experience, repetition, attention to detail, and learning from people who are better than you.

You may have never built a sauna before—and that's completely fine.

What matters is that you have a good foundation, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to become better at your craft.

TOOLS

Candidates should have their own basic hand tools appropriate for carpentry work.

We do not expect candidates to own every specialized tool required for sauna construction. Cedar Craft Sauna provides additional tools and equipment as needed.

HOW TO APPLY

If you think you’d be a good fit for this role, please submit your resume with references and we will reach out for next steps if necessary. Bonus points are given to candidates who email photos of past work to [email protected]
