What they need

About Howden

We are part of the Howden Broking Group, the world's largest privately owned insurance broker, headquartered in London. Since launching our Howden Pacific business in March 2021, we have grown significantly across Australia and New Zealand.

Our mantra is to be People First. We believe you can teach someone new skills, but not how to be a different person. We offer a chance to join a rapidly growing business at an exciting time, with a genuinely collegiate culture and highly engaged team.

The opportunity

We are committed to a culture where our people are empowered to make decisions and individuals are able to succeed in a supportive environment that recognises and rewards both teamwork and ambition.

We have a vacancy for an entry-level Case Manager position. In this role you will manage your own employer portfolio, with the opportunity to get to know their business, their people and work culture. By partnering with the employer, you will ensure their employees benefit from having Howden Care look after their people from the day they are injured to the day they successfully return to work, and we will support you to enable you to make your mark!

This role can be based in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage a client (employer) portfolio of claims, aligned to your skills, strengths and experience, applying sound technical, legal and medical knowledge and experience.
  • Regular communication with employers, customers, providers and other stakeholders including face to face meetings, to ensure your portfolio is supported and everyone is working to achieve a common goal.
  • Assessment of work injury claims, dealing with customers empathetically and in accordance with Howden's industry-leading customer service standards
  • Co-ordination of supports for customers to assist with a sustainable recovery.

Let’s talk about you

The ideal candidate will be people centric with excellent administrative skills, an eye for detail, and an ability to work at pace. While experience in the healthcare and insurance industry is an advantage, consideration will be given to someone with the right attitude and growth mindset.

Your ability to communicate effectively combined with excellent administration experience in a healthcare or insurance setting will be a real asset to our team. We focus on innovation and continually challenge our people to think outside the square, so join us, and help Howden Care make a difference to employer communities.

As a Case Manager, you will:

  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of administrative experience ideally within the health or insurance environment, although consideration will be given to those with the right attitude.
  • Demonstrate a People first approach to work, clients, customers and colleagues
  • Have the ability to work professionally and compassionately deal with customers, many of whom may be under stress and to maintain good customer relationships
  • Have the ability to establish communicate effectively and establish strong working relationships with a wide range of people, including clients, customers, colleagues and providers
  • Have the ability to work systematically and juggle priorities to ensure key requirements and milestones are met
  • Have excellent problem-solving ability, able to think outside the square and push boundaries to create the best outcome for all parties
  • Have the ability to work within policy and legislative boundaries, where sometimes hard calls need to be made.
  • Have a growth mindset – open to change, continuous learning and comfortable working in an evolving business as we continue to improve and shape our service models and technology.

Just as importantly, you will be someone who embodies our cultural values: Put people first, be authentic, challenge complacency, think client, pursue excellence and keen to make your mark.

Remuneration and benefits

In addition to competitive remuneration, we offer free salary continuance insurance and the opportunity for flexible work arrangements after completing a full induction and training period,  along with a positive and inclusive team environment, the opportunity to join a growing service provider and develop your skills as a case manager.

We have a huge diversity of talent from all walks of life, each with unique experiences and perspectives, all of whom can make a difference. Howden Pacific strives to build an inclusive workplace where our people feel welcome to bring their whole and true self to work, where differences are accepted and where our words and actions are inclusive.
