What they need
Make a real impact where it matters most.
MATES in Construction is a leading industry-backed charity dedicated to supporting mental health and reducing high rate of suicide among Australian construction workers. Established in 2008, MATES is unique in its approach—driven by the industry, for the industry—creating a culture where mental health and suicide prevention are everyone’s responsibility.
Built on the belief that "suicide is everyone’s business," the MATES model fosters a strong, on-site support network, empowering workers to look out for each other and access high-quality help when they need it. Through our community development approach, we break down barriers to seeking support, making a real impact on the lives of workers and their families.
We are now seeking an experienced and passionate Case Manager/Field Officer to join the South Australian team.
About the Role:
Based in Adelaide, this role provides vital support to workers across the construction industry. You will deliver suicide prevention training, provide case management and crisis support, and work with a wide range of industry stakeholders—including workers, families, employers, unions, and service providers.
Working closely with the CEO, SA team, and interstate colleagues, you will contribute to building stronger, safer, and more resilient construction communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide case management support, working with individuals to assess needs, set goals, and develop action plans.
- Refer workers to appropriate support services and maintain ongoing engagement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, community organisations, and service providers.
- Monitor client progress and adjust support plans as needed.
- Promote and deliver MATESsuicide prevention training programs to large groups within the SA construction industry.
- Identify new opportunities for program implementation and industry engagement.
- Conduct suicide interventions aligned with MATES protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold all MATES SA policies and procedures.
Skills & Experience:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in complex case management with high-risk or high-needs clients.
- Skilled in mental health, suicide prevention, and client-centred practice.
- An exceptional communicator with strong relationship-building capability.
- Confident in delivering training to large groups and diverse audiences.
- Resilient, empathetic, and able to work under pressure.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement.
- Knowledgeable about the construction industry (highly regarded but not essential).
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in human services, social welfare, psychology, or similar (degree minimum).
- Demonstrated experience in high-risk case management.
- Strong negotiation, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office.
- Passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing.
- Current Australian driver’s licence.
- National Police Clearance & Working with Children Check.
- Capacity to work outside standard business hours and travel intra/interstate.
Desirable:
- Experience in the construction industry.
- Understanding of community development principles.
- Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
- Senior First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong understanding of SA support services.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary package + fully maintained company vehicle
- 15% superannuation
- Five (5) weeks of annual leave
- Monthly Rostered Day Off (RDO)
- Supportive, passionate team environment
- Interstate and intrastate travel opportunities
