Cashier

The position of retail cashier main responsibility is to assist customers in the in-store checkout process. Cashier needs to maintain a positive and professional attitude while working to deliver an excellent customer service. Other duties include, but are not limited to: bag merchandise, redeem coupons, collect payment, address customer questions, go trough the check out process quickly and accurately; perform other support functions which may include cleaning, display and/or stock areas, and provide customer service that goes above and beyond what our customer expect. This is a non-exempt position and typically reports to Head Cashier and management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Process merchandise returns and exchanges
• Weigh items sold by weight in order to determine prices
• Ensure customer transactions are processed promptly and accurately
• Collects payments by accepting cash, check, or charge payments from customers
• Scan each item at the Point of Sale (POS)
• Use store procedures for identifying fraudulent checks and cash
• Open and close cash registers, performing tasks such as processing payments, counting pick-ups and processing discounts (military, customer appreciation, etc.)
• Balances cash drawer by counting cash at beginning and end of work shift
• Solicit participation in Loyalty programs
• Redeem in-store and vendor coupons
• Greet customers when entering and leaving establishments
• Maintain clean and orderly checkout areas
• Return back to stock, defective merchandise and shrinkage to their designated area during and before shift ends
• Restock merchandise on assigned areas
• Recovery and cleanliness on assigned aisles
• Check expiration dates on consumable items
• Make popcorn and maintain machine clean and organized at all times
• Offer customers carry-out service with large bulky items
• Request assistance using paging systems
• Follows all company policies and procedures while carrying out the responsibilities
• Attends all store meetings and training sessions
• Any other duties assigned by the head cashier and supervisors/managers

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Must be physically able to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties

• Ability to carry 40-50lbs without any accommodations
• Ability to bend, reach high, stretch, kneel without any accommodations
• Ability to use general math skills
• Basic PC knowledge and familiarity with electronic equipment (e.g., cash register, scanners, money counters etc.)
• Must be able to utilize company point-of-sale system, Microsoft Work & Excel, and other 3rd party software applications at a basic level

WORK AVAILABILITY

• Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 4 to 12 hours per day, at a minimum of 20 (Part-time employees) or 35 (Full-time employees) hours per week, or such other hours per day or weeks as management determines are necessary or desirable to meet business needs
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holiday

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
