What they need

Why join us?:

This is an opportunity to join our Working Capital team as a Legal Cashier, playing an important role in the smooth running of our Cashiering and Banking Operations function. You’ll work across client and office account activity, helping ensure transactions are processed accurately, issues are resolved quickly and financial controls are maintained.

Based in our Manchester office, you’ll work on a hybrid basis with three days per week in the office. You’ll join a collaborative finance environment within a growing international business, with the opportunity to develop your experience across legal cashiering, banking operations and process improvement.

Responsibilities:

You’ll manage and allocate incoming client and office account receipts across a range of banking platforms, investigating unreferenced or unallocated payments and resolving banking exceptions and failed transactions. You’ll also support cheque banking, telegraphic transfers, suspense account reconciliation and the management of cashiering queries, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and within agreed timescales.

Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Working Capital, Treasury and the wider business, you’ll help maintain accurate records and a clear audit trail while ensuring client money and cashiering activity complies with SRA Accounts Rules, internal controls and procedures. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to automation and process improvements across Cashiering and Working Capital.

What will help you succeed in this role? :

Essential

  • Previous experience in legal cashiering, banking operations or a high-volume transactional finance environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a consistent focus on accuracy and financial controls.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve transactional, banking and allocation queries.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and month-end deadlines.
  • Confident communication skills and a professional, service-focused approach.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft 365 applications.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules and the handling of client and office account transactions.
  • Experience within a legal or professional services environment.
  • Experience using 3E, HighRadius Cashiering or similar finance and cash-allocation systems.
  • Experience of suspense account management, bank exceptions and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of BACS, CHAPS, Faster Payments and Telegraphic Transfers.
  • Experience working within a shared services or high-volume finance operations environment.
