Cashier

A good cashier helps make shopping easier for everyone, from greeting customers at the checkout to making sure each transaction is handled correctly. We’re looking for a Cashier in Dayton, to join our retail team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being around people, likes having a clear role to focus on and wants to build their confidence in a working environment.

Position Details

• Location: Dayton, OH
• Employment: Full-time
• Hours: 35–40 hours per week
• Shifts: Morning and afternoon schedules, provided in advance
• Setting: In-person retail environment
• Training: Paid, with guidance provided on store procedures and checkout systems

What the Work Involves

The checkout is an important part of the customer's visit, and you'll help keep things moving while making sure people feel welcome. Some periods will be busier than others, so being able to stay focused, work at a steady pace and communicate well with customers will be useful.

The role will involve:

• Operating the cash register and processing customer purchases
• Accepting cash, credit cards, debit cards and other approved payment methods
• Giving customers the correct change and issuing receipts
• Greeting shoppers, answering straightforward questions and offering assistance when needed
• Following store procedures when processing returns, exchanges or other checkout requests
• Checking that transactions are recorded accurately and reporting any discrepancies
• Keeping the checkout counter and surrounding area clean and presentable
• Helping customers with bags or packing purchases when appropriate
• Supporting the wider retail team with basic store tasks when the checkout is quieter
• Communicating with supervisors if a customer needs additional assistance

You'll be shown how the checkout equipment works, how payments are processed and what to do in common situations. As you become more familiar with the role, you'll have the opportunity to develop your speed, accuracy and customer service skills.

Who Would Suit This Position?

This role could suit someone looking to enter retail, return to work or gain experience in a customer-facing position. Previous experience as a Cashier, Retail Assistant, Store Associate or Customer Service Assistant is useful, but it isn't a requirement.

We're more interested in finding someone who takes their work seriously, treats people respectfully and is willing to learn.

You'll ideally be someone who:
