Cashier

PURPOSE

Provides fast friendly customer service by processing customer orders in an efficient, accurate, safe and courteous manner, in compliance with Company policies and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Communicates with customers and co-workers in a polite and professional manner.
• Greets, engages and thanks customers.
• Monitors customer flow and calls for assistance as needed.
• Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques as well as bags customer orders properly.
• Assists customers with promotional items and items available at the checkstand and product location throughout the store.
• Accurately operates checkstand equipment such as a cash register, electronic payment system, Self-Checkout (SCO) scanner and scale to process customer orders in strict compliance with Company Policies and Procedures. Reports policy violations to store management.
• Accurately handles monetary transactions including cash, checks, charges, gift cards, food stamps, WIC vouchers, and processing coupons.
• Accountable for cash register till contents. Required to keep currency and coupons organized.
• Accurately identifies produce items and rings them up according to policy.
• Responsible for keeping checkstand area clean, neat and properly stocked and for ensuring a clean, safe and secure work area.
• May perform duties such as stocking, returning merchandise to the sales floor and rotating merchandise.
• Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity and in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
• Other necessary and required duties as directed.

PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Friendly and courteous communications with customers and co-workers. Must maintain composure.
• Frequently lifts and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 50 lbs. Performs repetitious work accurately and operates checkstand equipment.
• Stands for long periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
• Possesses thorough knowledge of product locations.
• Mental alertness is necessary to ensure accuracy in recording sales and handling monetary transactions. Must possess basic math skills.
• Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment to maintain a neat and clean work area.
• Required to work weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Good attendance is required.
• Must comply with appropriate grooming and dress code standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment. Requires some exposure to varying weather conditions for performance of outdoor duties. Will be exposed to traffic in parking lots, maneuvering shopping carts and varying degrees of traction on indoor and outdoor surfaces during inclement weather. Frequent exposure to and handling of hot and cold product.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
