What they need
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Jewelry Casting Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for transforming wax designs and resin prototypes into high-quality precious metal jewelry pieces. You will oversee the entire lost-wax casting process—from assembling wax trees to operating burnout kilns and casting machinery.
Core Responsibilities
- Wax Tree Assembly: Inspect wax models and 3D resin prints for any flaws, then carefully solder them onto a central sprue to create clean, efficient casting trees.
- Flask Preparation & Investing: Weigh and mix investment powder and water to the correct ratios. Pour the mixture over the wax trees inside casting flasks, using a vacuum machine to remove all air bubbles.
- Burnout Kiln Operation: Load flasks into burnout ovens and program the correct temperature cycles to melt out the wax completely and cure the plaster molds.
- Metal Melting & Casting: Measure out precious metals and alloys (like gold and silver). Safely operate casting machinery to melt and pour the metal into hot flasks.
- De-vesting & Cleaning: Remove the hardened plaster from the cast trees using water pressure or chemical baths. Clip the individual jewelry pieces off the metal tree and clean them in an ultrasonic tank.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished raw castings for issues like air bubbles, incomplete fills, or surface roughness, and report any problems to supervisors.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on kilns, vacuum pumps, and casting torches. Keep the casting area clean and strictly follow safety rules for handling hot metal and chemicals.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 1 to 3+ years of hands-on experience working with lost-wax casting in a jewelry manufacturing or studio environment.
Technical Knowledge: A clear understanding of melting points, temperature settings, and how different metals behave during casting.
Tool Proficiency: Experience using vacuum investing equipment, programmable burnout ovens, and centrifugal or vacuum casting machines.
Detail-Oriented: Great eyesight and a steady hand to catch tiny defects in wax models before they are cast, preventing metal waste.
Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long stretches, work carefully around high-heat machinery, and lift heavy casting flasks safely.
Basic bench skills, such as using a saw, filing, or magnetic tumbling to help prepare raw castings for the polishing team.
Experience working with 3D-printed resin models and knowing how to adjust burnout times for resin vs. standard wax.
