Located in the heart of North Sydney, Stanton Library is a vibrant community hub that connects people with knowledge, ideas, technology and each other. We pride ourselves on providing welcoming, inclusive, and innovative library services that support lifelong learning, creativity and community engagement.

North Sydney Council administers the North Sydney local government area on Sydney’s picturesque lower North Shore. Our 400 employees look after 77,000 residents spread across 10 square kilometres of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour providing spectacular harbour views, beautiful parklands and a bustling CBD.

The role

Join Stanton Library's Library Experience team and help create welcoming, positive experiences for our community. We're looking for an experienced, people-focused casual Librarian to supervise the Library and rostered staff during evening and weekend opening hours.

You'll lead by example on the customer service desk, mentor staff, and make sure our customers get the information, services and technology support they need.

This casual role requires availability for rostered shifts of 3 to 4.25 hours across the full range of library opening hours, including evenings and weekends.

The person

You are a confident and customer-focused library professional who thrives in a fast-paced public service environment.

You are a natural problem solver with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of handling complex enquiries and resolving issues with professionalism and empathy.

If you thrive in a busy and varied environment and value excellent customer service and teamwork, we'd love to hear from you.

Why work at NSC?

We're committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and positive workplace. Our teams are reflective of the communities in which we operate, and we value the unique contribution each member makes to the North Sydney Council. The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of our residents and contributes to their economic and social wellbeing.

  • Flexible working hours with access to flexi-time for indoor employees
  • Freedom to direct contributions to any compliant superannuation fund
  • Health and Well-being programs for all employees such as Yoga and Boxing
  • Access to employee recognition and reward program
  • Weekly fruit baskets
  • Free access to counselling sessions through our Employee Assistance Program
  • Free financial advice by a certified Financial Planner
  • Monetary transport allowance
  • Invitations to local government events, training and planning sessions
