What they need

Job Overview

The Catering Security Agent protects airline catering operations by monitoring food and beverage assembly, inspecting catering supplies and vehicles, controlling security seals, and documenting security activity before catering equipment is loaded for service. The role works in the catering facility, beverage center, kitchen areas, and around catering trucks while following applicable TSA and United Airlines security requirements, local security laws, and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be expected to perform with or without accommodation:

  • Monitor each phase of catering assembly in the catering facility or beverage center while following applicable TSA and United Airlines security requirements, local security laws, and hygiene standards.
  • Inspect food and beverages, serving utensils, liquor supplies, duty-free items, and catering equipment before they are loaded into a catering vehicle, including squatting to inspect food and beverage carts.
  • Inspect catering vehicles for weapons, explosives, or other dangerous items before catering carts or equipment are loaded. Use and lift a 3-pound search mirror to inspect upper crevices and corners of the catering truck.
  • Monitor all catering equipment as it is loaded and before the truck is sealed. This requires standing for approximately 30 minutes for each truck being loaded.
  • Document the sealing process, maintain required records, and prepare a daily shift report on security activities.
  • Conduct internal kitchen inspections and monitor work areas for potential security risks.
  • Seal catering trucks after inspection. This requires bending at the waist to secure the roll-up door seal and stepping into the driver's compartment to attach a seal to the front of the cargo compartment.
  • When a catering truck arrives at the Beverage Center, open the security roll-up door by pulling the chain attached to the pulley. Inspect the security seal on the roll-up door and the seal behind the driver's compartment, and break intact seals as required. This work requires standing, pulling, bending, and squatting.
  • Maintain equipment used for security searches, including mirrors and flashlights.
  • Assist the Security Supervisor as required and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

POI Aviation evaluates applicants based on their ability to perform the position’s essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, consistent with applicable disability, pregnancy, religious-accommodation, and protected-leave laws.

  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience demonstrating the ability to perform the position’s required security and documentation duties.
  • Ability to read and understand written safety and security instructions, complete required records and reports, and communicate job-related information in English at the level necessary for safe and effective performance.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Availability to work assigned shifts in a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to work primarily outdoors and in the operational environments described below.
  • Ability to perform duties involving frequent standing, bending, and squatting and to lift items weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Regular and reliable attendance sufficient to meet operational security-coverage requirements, subject to applicable accommodation and protected-leave laws.

Key Competencies

Successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • Security awareness and recognition of potential risks
  • Careful inspection and attention to detail
  • Accurate documentation and record keeping
  • Clear and effective communication
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Consistent adherence to security and hygiene procedures
  • Teamwork and responsiveness to supervisory direction

Work Environment

The Catering Security Agent works in catering facilities, beverage and kitchen areas, and around catering vehicles. The position requires working outside for approximately 90 percent of the shift and standing, bending, and squatting for at least 90 percent of the shift.

The work includes lifting up to 25 pounds; lifting and using a 3-pound search mirror; standing for approximately 30 minutes while a truck is loaded; stepping into a driver's compartment; handling security seals; and pulling a chain mechanism to open and close a security roll-up door. The schedule may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime in a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week operation.
