CDL Driver Apprentice

Job Summary

Join our team as a CDL Driver Apprentice and kick-start your career in commercial truck driving! This paid apprenticeship offers hands-on experience operating mostly 53' dry van trailers with automatic and manual tractors. You’ll learn essential skills such as defensive driving techniques, backing and turning, pre- and post- trip inspections, hours of service regulations, and emergency situation responses. This is a three week program with the ability to turn into a regular contractor position. This position starts at $.38 per mile, or $20 per hour. Youhas Trucking provides all fuel, tolls, parking, scales, and maintenance costs.

Responsibilities

• Learn and adhere to all safety protocols, traffic laws, DOT (Department of Transportation), and FMCSA regulations during daily operations.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections on trucks, including checking air brake systems, manual transmissions, and other mechanical components to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
• Drive safely through city streets and rural routes, demonstrating defensive driving techniques while maintaining punctuality and route efficiency.
• Help with routine vehicle maintenance tasks and report any mechanical issues promptly to ensure optimal truck performance.
• Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally with customers and addressing basic inquiries when appropriate.
• As a 1099 contractor, you will be expected to pay your own taxes.

Requirements

• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
• Ability to regularly communicate via text, email, and phone.
• Strong commitment to safety standards, hazard awareness, and customer service excellence.
