About Honeyrock Outdoors
Honeyrock Outdoors is a premier design-build construction company specializing in luxury outdoor living spaces throughout Middle Tennessee. Our projects include custom swimming pools, outdoor kitchens, patios, hardscapes, retaining walls, landscaping, and complete backyard transformations.
We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and highly motivated professional to join our team as a CDL Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator / Assistant Project Manager.
This is not simply a truck-driving or equipment-operating position. We need a versatile construction professional who can take ownership of site development, equipment operations, jobsite logistics, and field coordination across multiple active construction projects.
The ideal candidate takes initiative, solves problems before they become costly, understands construction operations, and consistently looks for ways to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities: Site Layout, Excavation, Demolition & Site Preparation
- Take primary responsibility for coordinating and executing site layout, excavation, demolition, grading, and site preparation across all active company projects.
- Establish and verify site layouts according to approved construction plans, dimensions, elevations, and specifications.
- Perform and oversee demolition of existing concrete, patios, decks, retaining walls, landscaping, and other site improvements.
- Execute excavation and earthwork for swimming pools, foundations, footings, patios, retaining walls, drainage systems, and other outdoor construction features.
- Establish proper grades, elevations, drainage slopes, and finished subgrade conditions.
- Coordinate the removal, hauling, and disposal of demolition debris, excavated soil, and unsuitable materials.
- Prepare jobsites for subcontractors and installation crews, ensuring each project is properly laid out, excavated, graded, and ready for the next phase of construction.
- Identify potential site conditions, drainage concerns, underground obstructions, access restrictions, and other construction challenges before they cause delays.
- Coordinate equipment, labor, materials, and subcontractors needed to complete site development efficiently.
- Maintain ownership and accountability for the quality, accuracy, scheduling, and completion of site preparation activities across multiple projects.
CDL Driving & Equipment Transportation
- Safely operate company trucks and gooseneck trailers to transport heavy equipment, construction materials, and supplies.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload skid steers, mini excavators, and other construction equipment.
- Coordinate equipment and material deliveries between multiple jobsites.
- Maintain compliance with applicable DOT regulations and safe transportation practices.
- Plan transportation and equipment movements to minimize downtime and unnecessary trips.
Heavy Equipment Operation
- Safely and efficiently operate skid steers, mini excavators, and other construction machinery.
- Perform detailed grading, trenching, excavation, backfilling, material handling, and earthmoving operations.
- Utilize equipment to maximize jobsite productivity while maintaining quality and safety.
- Inspect equipment before operation and promptly report maintenance or repair needs.
- Assist field crews with additional construction activities as needed.
Assistant Project Management & Field Coordination
- Work directly with the company owner to assist in managing and coordinating multiple active construction projects.
- Serve as an additional set of eyes and ears in the field, communicating project progress, jobsite challenges, and upcoming needs.
- Assist with subcontractor scheduling, crew coordination, material deliveries, and equipment allocation.
- Monitor jobsite productivity, construction quality, and adherence to approved plans.
- Anticipate potential problems and implement practical solutions to prevent costly delays and rework.
- Ensure subcontractors and crews have the information, materials, and site conditions necessary to complete their work efficiently.
- Provide regular progress updates, identify outstanding tasks, and help drive projects toward timely completion.
- Take initiative to improve jobsite organization, workflow, and overall project profitability.
Fleet, Equipment & Shop Management
- Help oversee the condition, cleanliness, maintenance, and readiness of company trucks, trailers, machinery, and equipment.
- Coordinate routine inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, and necessary repairs.
- Maintain an organized equipment yard, shop, and material storage area.
- Identify potential mechanical problems before they result in breakdowns or construction delays.
- Assist with equipment tracking, inventory management, and material logistics.
- Promote accountability for proper equipment use and maintenance.
Qualifications
Required:
- Valid CDL with the appropriate classification and endorsements for assigned vehicles and trailers.
- Proven experience operating skid steers, mini excavators, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Strong experience in site layout, excavation, demolition, grading, and site preparation.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, establish elevations, and understand grading and drainage requirements.
- Experience safely transporting and securing heavy equipment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to take ownership of responsibilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Excellent attendance, communication skills, and a strong work ethic.
- Acceptable driving record and ability to meet applicable DOT requirements.
Highly Preferred:
- Experience in swimming pool construction, outdoor living construction, hardscaping, landscaping, or site development.
- Experience managing excavation and site preparation across multiple projects.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors, construction crews, and jobsite activities.
- Previous experience as a construction foreman, superintendent, equipment operator, or assistant project manager.
- Mechanical knowledge of diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot field conditions and resolve construction challenges efficiently.
