We are supporting an advanced battery technology business that is expanding its cell testing capability and looking for a Cell Safety Testing Engineer to join the team.

This is a hands-on laboratory role for an engineer who enjoys understanding how lithium-ion cells behave when pushed beyond normal operating conditions. You’ll work across safety, abuse, transport and reliability testing, helping generate the data needed to understand cell performance, investigate failures and support qualification activity.

The position offers broad exposure across battery development, engineering, quality and external testing partners, with responsibility for planning and executing technically demanding test programs.

You’ll be involved in:

• Developing and running controlled battery safety and abuse tests.
• Supporting testing against requirements such as UN 38.3, UL and IEC .
• Designing test fixtures and selecting instrumentation, sensors and data-acquisition methods.
• Working with high-current systems, environmental chambers and battery cyclers.
• Analysing test data and identifying abnormal behaviour or failure modes.
• Supporting root-cause investigations and technical problem solving.
• Commissioning and qualifying new laboratory and testing equipment.
• Producing clear, traceable technical reports and test documentation.
• Working with internal engineering teams and specialist external laboratories.

We’re looking for a relevant engineering degree together with 3+ years of battery safety, validation, reliability or comparable high-energy testing experience .

Experience with cylindrical lithium-ion cells, particularly 18650 or 21700 formats , would be highly relevant. Exposure to Python, MATLAB, test automation or statistical analysis would also be useful.
