Are you looking for the opportunity for engaging work and the opportunity to make a difference? The ALPHA Behavioral Health Center, with locations in the counties of Kershaw, Lee, and Chesterfield in South Carolina, seeks to provide quality services to individuals and their families to reduce problems associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs of abuse, behavioral health needs, and co-occurring disorders, in an accessible outpatient setting.

NOW HIRING: PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Peer Support Specialists (PSS) function as role models to peers with a diagnosis of substance use disorders. The PSS exhibits competency in their own personal recovery and use of coping skills. Peers of all ages, from young adult to older age, are assisted in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.

Peer Support Service is an individualized, recovery-focused service that allows individuals the opportunity to learn to manage their own recovery and advocacy process. Interventions of Peer Support staff serve to enhance the development of natural supports, as well as coping and self-management skills. Peer Support Services emphasize personal safety, self-worth, confidence, and growth, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, development of social supports, and effective communication skills. Services emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of rehabilitative skills needed to move forward in recovery.

The applicant should be well-established in their own substance misuse recovery, resilient, and have at least two years of active participation in a local or national self-help group or recovery movement as evidenced by previous volunteer or work experience. Certification as a DAODAS Certified Peer Support Specialist is preferred, but ALPHA will work with you to obtain certification if you do not yet have it.
