POSITION: Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill prescriptions, deliver orders and to perform other pharmacy service duties as required.

Position Responsibilities

· Assists in pharmacy needs as assigned by pharmacist.

· Prepares and fills medication orders, such as making IV’s

· Triages phone calls from health care providers.

· Fills automated dispensing machines using bar code technology.

· Restocks areas of the pharmacy as needed.

· Generates required reports, such as refill reports, return bin reports, etc.

· Performs calculations accurately. (Measured by examination).

· Recycles product as appropriate by placing in appropriate bins.

· Prepares IV products using appropriate aseptic technique.

· Inpatient Dosage Preparation – fills orders with correct medication and labels medications appropriately. Such as IV’s.

· Delivers medications in a timely fashion when appropriate.

· Notifies the Pharmacist about items that are in short supply.

· Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

· High school graduate or equivalent.

· Current state board of pharmacy technician license, Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Certification program or at least one year of training as a Pharmacy Technician or a Foreign Pharmacy candidate.

· Experience in I.V. admixtures, unit does drug distribution and computer entry.

· Typing skills of 30 WPM; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

· Knowledge of Cerner and Pyxis or equivale

Environmental and Physical Demands

The employee works in a temperature-controlled environment.

Candidate must be able to read and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to deal well with the public (customers) as well as peers. Vision for near, mid-range, and far accommodation.

Job requires physical ability for standing, sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist.

Job risks include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with laser and chemicals, lifting of 30 - 50 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.

• Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds
