Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Certified Phlebotomy Technician to perform blood collections and support specimen processing. The ideal candidate combines confident collection technique with careful identification, labeling, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient identity, laboratory orders, and collection requirements before each draw.

• Perform venipuncture and skin-puncture collections within certification scope and laboratory protocols.

• Explain the collection process and help patients feel comfortable, including those with needle anxiety.

• Follow proper tube selection, order of draw, labeling, and specimen-handling procedures.

• Centrifuge, aliquot, store, and prepare specimens for in-house testing or reference-laboratory transport according to training and protocols.

• Document collections and promptly report specimen problems or collection difficulties.

• Recognize adverse reactions and immediately notify the appropriate clinician.

• Maintain a clean, stocked collection area and follow sharps, biohazard, and infection-control procedures.

• Coordinate specimen handoffs with laboratory and clinical staff.

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II certification.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Demonstrated proficiency in adult venipuncture and specimen handling.

• Strong patient-service skills, attention to detail, and reliability.

• Current BLS certification preferred.

• Outpatient phlebotomy experience and proficiency with difficult draws preferred.

• Familiarity with electronic medical records and laboratory requisitions preferred.
