What they need

About the Opportunity

A private family office is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead finance, accounting, tax, and reporting across a multi-entity investment platform. The family’s portfolio spans real estate (industrial, multifamily, commercial, and development), public equities, private equity, venture capital, private credit, and hedge funds. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy seat reporting directly to the CEO within a small, sophisticated team. The CFO makes sure the office’s financial, legal, and tax systems are accurate, controlled, and decision-ready, and plays an active role in tracking investments, asset management, underwriting, and financing. The employer is a confidential single-family office and will be disclosed to candidates during the interview process.

What You’ll Do

· Own the chart of accounts, internal controls, and the review and sign-off of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close across all entities.

· Oversee intercompany accounting, inter-entity loans, and consolidation, and ensure financial statements are dependable and audit-ready.

· Manage cash, banking, and treasury: maintain visibility into all bank and brokerage accounts, approve wires, own cash-flow forecasting and liquidity planning, and recommend capital calls and distributions.

· Track every investment across the portfolio, including capital invested, distributions, debt, valuations, and returns (IRR, equity multiple), and prepare deal- and portfolio-level reporting for ownership.

· Participate in and oversee asset management: monitor property and investment performance, review sponsor and operator reporting, approve budgets and capital expenditures, and flag underperformance with recommended actions.

· Ensure adequate financial, insurance, and risk controls are in place for entire portfolio.

· Member of Investment Committee and participate in underwriting of new acquisitions, developments, and investments, including reviewing pro formas and financial models, leading financial due diligence, and contributing to investment memos.

· Lead financing activity: source and negotiate acquisition loans, refinancings, and credit facilities; manage lender relationships, covenant compliance, maturities, and lender reporting.

· Support dispositions, hold-versus-sell analysis, and transaction structuring.

· Coordinate with outside CPAs and tax advisors on all filings, K-1s, sales and property taxes, tax basis, and audits.

· Oversee payroll, benefits, 1099s, and HR compliance, and build dashboards and consolidated reporting for leadership.

What We’re Looking For

· 5+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior leadership of a finance function and hands-on involvement in real estate or private investment underwriting, financing, and asset management, at a family office, real estate investment firm, private equity fund, or public accounting firm serving those clients.

· CPA strongly preferred; MBA or JD a plus.

· Deep knowledge of multi-entity and partnership accounting, consolidation, partnership taxation, K-1s, and tax basis.

· Experience negotiating commercial real estate debt and managing lender relationships.

· Strong financial modeling skills (IRR, waterfalls, cash-flow forecasting) and advanced Excel; experience with QuickBooks Online or similar systems.

· A high standard of accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness, with the discretion and integrity required to manage private family capital.

Compensation

$180,000-275,000.

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. The position is structured for a long-term relationship with the family office.
