We are seeking an experienced, Chartered Senior Structural Engineer to lead and deliver structural design across redevelopment, refurbishment, adaptation, and new-build projects. Key Responsibilities

- Assess existing structures and develop appropriate structural solutions for building alterations, extensions, conversions, and new construction.
- Prepare and review structural drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical reports for planning, tender, and construction stages.
- Ensure all structural design work complies with UK Building Regulations, Eurocodes, relevant British Standards, and applicable statutory requirements.
- Coordinate structural designs with architectural, MEP, civil engineering, and other design disciplines to ensure integrated and buildable solutions.
- Review existing building information, site investigation findings, surveys, and structural condition reports to identify risks and inform design decisions.
- Provide technical guidance on structural feasibility, construction methods, design risks, and opportunities for value engineering.
- Review contractor proposals, respond to technical queries, and support the resolution of structural design and construction issues throughout project delivery.
- Manage and coordinate external consultants where required, ensuring design quality, technical accuracy, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate closely with pre-construction, development, and construction teams to balance structural integrity, cost, programme, compliance, and buildability.
About You
We are looking for a technically strong, commercially aware Chartered Structural Engineer with substantial UK structural design experience and a proven ability to lead projects across different stages of development. You will have a strong understanding of existing buildings, refurbishment and adaptive reuse, alongside the technical expertise to develop practical structural solutions and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in structural design, with UK experience essential.
- Chartered Engineer status is mandatory , with membership of a relevant professional institution such as IStructE or ICE.
- Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, UK Building Regulations, relevant British Standards, and structural design principles.
- Proven experience in structural analysis, calculations, and the preparation and review of detailed design documentation.
- Experience delivering redevelopment, refurbishment, adaptive reuse, or existing-building conversion projects.
- Proficiency in relevant structural design and analysis software, such as MasterSeries, Robot, ETABS, TEDDS, Tekla, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, structural detailing, buildability, and the practical challenges of delivering projects on site.
- Excellent technical communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Commercial awareness, with the ability to identify design risks, assess alternatives, and support cost-effective solutions.
The Person
You will be a hands-on, solutions-focused professional who takes ownership of structural design outcomes and provides clear technical leadership. You will have the confidence and technical credibility to challenge assumptions, coordinate consultants, advise project teams, and resolve complex structural engineering issues.
You will understand the practical realities of construction and be able to balance structural performance, safety, compliance, cost, programme, and buildability. You will demonstrate sound engineering judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical matters clearly to both engineering specialists and wider project teams.
If you are a Chartered Senior Structural Engineer with strong UK design experience, expertise in refurbishment and redevelopment, and the technical leadership skills to deliver safe, practical, and commercially effective structural solutions, we would welcome your application.
