HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Chassis Engineer - Actuators to support the design, development, testing, and delivery of electromechanical components for an advanced active suspension system.

In this role, you’ll own component design and release activities while coordinating engineering milestones from prototype development through testing, manufacturing, and vehicle integration. You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and suppliers to develop reliable, efficient chassis actuator systems designed specifically for autonomous vehicles.

The ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with hands-on experience designing and developing chassis or suspension components, particularly struts, air springs, dampers, or related electromechanical systems. You have strong CAD and GD&T skills, understand automotive component development and release processes, and can take hardware from design through testing, validation, and integration.

As a Chassis Engineer - Actuators, You'll

  • Design prototype hardware and electromechanical systems in CATIA V6 and develop detailed 2D drawing packages with GD&T for fabrication and assembly.
  • Evaluate the static, dynamic, structural, and thermal-mechanical performance of mechanical assemblies to support component development and validation.
  • Own component testing and characterization, including developing test methods, analyzing data, and supporting vehicle-level development.
  • Partner with suppliers to manage component designs, engineering documentation, development activities, and component deliveries.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and vehicle integration teams to support component bring-up and successful implementation on autonomous vehicle platforms.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Experience designing and developing struts, air springs, dampers, or related chassis and suspension components
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5 or V6, including component design and development of 2D engineering drawings with GD&T
  • Experience with vehicle engineering, chassis systems design, component development, and release
  • Understanding of pneumatic or hydraulic systems, sealing systems, electrical systems, and system architecture
  • Experience with component testing, validation, and vehicle development
  • Knowledge of automotive program development and release processes, including long-term schedule planning
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, management, and supplier teams

Bonus Qualifications

  • A master's degree or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Experience with suspension systems, dampers, and vehicle ride dynamics
  • Experience developing electromechanical systems such as air suspension systems, active dampers, air springs, air pumps, hydraulic pumps, or valves
  • Experience working at an automotive OEM or major Tier 1 supplier
  • Experience with CAN networks
  • Experience with Polarion, Jira, or Confluence
  • Proficiency with Simulink and pneumatic or hydraulic system modeling
  • Patent awards

Benefits

  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Employer (HireArt) subsidized healthcare benefits (eligibility begins on the first of the month following 60 days of service)
  • Flexible Spending Account for healthcare-related costs
  • HireArt covers all costs for short- and long-term disability and life insurance
  • 401k package

Commitment: *This is a full-time, ongoing contract position staffed via HireArt. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.

HireArt values diversity and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visas or employ corp-to-corp.*
