What they need

Event Check-In Coordinator - Encinitas

San Diego Chess & Social is hiring friendly, dependable people to manage check-in at our weekly social events.

Locations and Schedule

  • North Park: Tuesdays, 6:30–9:30 PM
  • Chula Vista: Wednesdays, 6:30–10:00 PM
  • Encinitas: Wednesdays, 6:30–9:00 PM
  • Pacific Beach: Thursdays, 6:30–10:00 PM

Shifts generally begin about 45 minutes before the event and include helping with setup and breakdown. Applicants do not need to work every location, but consistent weekly availability is strongly preferred.

The Role

The Event Check-In Coordinator is responsible for creating a friendly, organized arrival experience. You will welcome attendees, verify memberships and tickets, assist walk-ins, answer basic questions, and keep the entrance moving efficiently.

You should be warm and helpful without allowing individual conversations or complicated issues to delay the line.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the check-in station, signs, wristbands, and materials
  • Welcome attendees and provide a strong first impression
  • Check in members and ticket holders quickly and accurately
  • Use digital membership and ticketing systems
  • Help walk-ins purchase admission or become members
  • Answer basic questions about pricing, memberships, and events
  • Resolve simple registration issues
  • Direct larger problems to event leadership
  • Keep the line organized and moving
  • Monitor supplies and communicate when materials are running low
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown

You May Be a Great Fit If You

  • Are friendly, confident, and comfortable speaking with strangers
  • Stay organized in a busy environment
  • Can work quickly without making attendees feel rushed
  • Are dependable, punctual, and attentive to detail
  • Can avoid getting pulled into long conversations
  • Are comfortable using basic digital systems
  • Can reliably work at least one recurring weekday evening

Experience in hospitality, events, customer service, reception, ticketing, or membership organizations is helpful but not required.

No chess experience is required. Reliability, warmth, organization, and good judgment matter much more.
