Checkout operator

About the role

We are looking for a Checkout Operator to join the Mitre 10 team in Thames Waikato on a part-time basis. As a Checkout Operator, you will be the face of our store, providing excellent customer service while processing transactions efficiently and accurately. This role is essential to creating a positive shopping experience for our customers and ensuring smooth operations at the checkout. This is a four day per week position with fixed days including weekends, (32 hours per week)

Key responsibilities

• Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using the checkout till system
• Provide friendly, professional and courteous service to all customers
• Handle cash, card payments and other payment methods securely and accurately
• Scan items and verify prices to ensure customer satisfaction
• Bag or pack customer purchases appropriately
• Maintain a clean and organised checkout area
• Assist with stock replenishment and merchandise displays as required
• Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations
• Communicate effectively with team members and management
• Help resolve customer queries and complaints professionally

What we're looking for

• Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred but not essential
• Strong numeracy skills and accuracy in handling transactions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to work scheduling
• A friendly, positive attitude and genuine passion for customer service
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Basic IT competency for till system operation
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
