Reports To: General Manager

Position Summary:
The Cheesemonger curates, maintains and purchases gourmet cheese and specialty department products in coordination with Upper Management. This position works closely with Kitchen Management to ensure that displays in the department are full and attractive, and directs Gourmet Cheese team staff in the packing and processing of department-specific product. This position is also responsible for ensuring that all products are fresh, rotated properly and at an optimal price point for profit. This is a supervisory position. This position has hiring and firing capabilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Order gourmet cheese & specialty items
• Stock and merchandise gourmet cheese and specialty items.
• Works with Kitchen team members to ensure shelves are stocked
• Direct available Kitchen staff in the packing & processing of department-specific items
• Train above mentioned staff as needed.
• Coordinate with Assistant General Manager and Chief Marketing Officer for higher level trainings and educational events (webinars, readings, etc)
• Receive and check orders, submit invoices and manage credits/returns.
• Ensure product is at the correct price point for overall target margin.
• Ensure products are stocked well and rotated.
• Maintain a clean and orderly backstock area.
• Maintain appropriate inventory levels.
• Set specials during designated intervals to feature products.
• Coordinate appropriate signage for products.
• Coordinate product with Chief Marketing Officer for demo and sampling.
• Work with Chief Marketing Officer to promote departmental products via web, social media
• Manage vendor relationships, including assessing inventory and communicating with
• vendors on a daily basis.
• Attend local food shows as requested by supervisors.

Other Responsibilities & Duties:

• Ensure follow-up of department phone calls and messages.
• Assist customers throughout other departments.
• Follow-up on Customer Requests as designated.
• Other duties as assigned

• Ability to optimize product mix for profit margin overall program diversity.
• Ability to process invoices and returns.

Special Considerations:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally.
• Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching and reaching while moving product.
• Little outdoor work is required.
• Language Skills: intermediate.
• Mathematical Skills: intermediate.
• Reasoning Ability: high.
• Equipment used: price gun; price scanner; cardboard baler; ice machine, knives, cheese wire, heat wrap machine
