Chef

Branxholm Park is a family-run, luxury exclusive-use wedding venue near Hawick in the Scottish Borders. We are looking for an experienced Chef to join our existing kitchen and wedding team. This is not a Head Chef position, and the successful candidate will not have sole responsibility for the kitchen. This is wedding and event catering rather than a conventional restaurant role. Work may include wedding food preparation, main meal service, plating, canapes, evening food service, breakfast preparation or support, event catering and prep before weddings. You will work alongside the existing kitchen and wedding team, help organise the kitchen, maintain food hygiene, clean down, adapt to different menus and guest numbers, and deliver consistent food and presentation to wedding service timings. This is an employed, part-time zero-hours position within the Branxholm Park team. Pay is £17.00 to £20.00 per hour depending on experience. Hours vary according to our wedding and event calendar, and there are no guaranteed weekly or minimum hours. Much of the wedding calendar is known months in advance. We want to build a long-term working relationship with a Chef who becomes a regular and established member of our team. We want someone who gets to know our kitchen, menus, wedding service, systems, standards, presentation expectations, timings and wider wedding team, and who takes pride in consistently delivering the experience our couples and guests expect. We completely understand that, because our available hours vary with the wedding calendar, the successful Chef may have other employment, agency work, private chef work or other catering commitments during quieter periods. That is entirely acceptable and we do not expect exclusivity. You can have other work, but when you work at Branxholm, you are part of the Branxholm team. We are not looking for an agency chef simply to cover occasional individual weddings as isolated assignments. This is employment with Branxholm Park for someone who wants to become properly involved with our team and learn how Branxholm Park weddings operate. Shifts can include weekdays, weekends and early starts. There are no late nights: shifts finish no later than 8pm. You should be an experienced, reliable and organised chef who is calm under pressure, communicates well and enjoys teamwork. You must be comfortable with high-volume event service, one-off weddings and working efficiently to timings. Professional kitchen experience is important. Wedding, event, hotel, banqueting or high-volume catering experience is highly desirable. Formal culinary qualifications are helpful but not essential where experience is strong. Due to our rural location and the nature of wedding and event shifts, applicants must have access to their own car or reliable private transport. Branxholm Park is difficult to access reliably by public transport. There is no live-in accommodation and travel expenses are not paid.
