About the Business

Our client is an established Auckland functions and events venue, hosting a busy calendar of weddings, corporate functions, school balls, celebrations and other special occasions.

Food is a key part of the experience, with the kitchen delivering a diverse range of menus across events of different sizes and styles, always with a strong focus on quality, presentation and consistency.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Chef with broad technical capability and a strong background in functions, events or high-volume catering.

Working as part of an established kitchen team, you’ll help deliver consistently high-quality food across a varied event calendar. You’ll be confident working at volume, maintaining quality and presentation under pressure and adapting across different menus and styles of service.

Importantly, this isn’t simply an execution role. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to seasonal menu development, recipes and food costing, bringing your own ideas and initiative while understanding the realities of delivering great food at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and delivering high-quality food across weddings, functions and large-scale events
• Working across a broad range of cooking techniques, menus and styles of service
• Maintaining consistency, presentation and quality when catering at volume
• Contributing ideas to menu development and seasonal menu changes
• Supporting recipe development, dish costing, portion control and management of food costs
• Preparing effectively for upcoming functions and helping ensure smooth, well-organised event service
• Monitoring stock, wastage and food quality within your area
• Supporting and sharing knowledge with junior and casual kitchen team members
• Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and health and safety
• Working closely with the Head Chef, wider kitchen team and front-of-house teams to deliver a seamless event experience

About You

You’ll be an experienced Chef who combines strong technical ability with initiative, creativity and commercial awareness.

You’ll bring:

• Broad technical cooking skills and experience working across varied menus
• Strong experience in high-volume catering, events, functions, banqueting or a similar environment
• The ability to maintain quality, consistency and presentation when producing food at scale
• Experience contributing to menu development, recipes and seasonal menu changes
• A good understanding of food costing, portion control and wastage
• Strong planning, organisation and time-management skills
• The confidence to use your initiative and contribute ideas
• The ability to remain calm and organised during busy event services
• A collaborative approach and willingness to support less experienced members of the kitchen team
• A positive, reliable and flexible approach

A New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4), or equivalent, would be advantageous.
