What they need
We're looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Chef/Cook to join our friendly kitchen team at Eyam Tea Rooms.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a busy kitchen and wants to be part of a supportive and respectful working environment.
Situated in the heart of the beautiful Peak District village of Eyam, our tea rooms serve a popular selection of freshly prepared breakfasts, lunches, homemade dishes and regularly changing specials.
Our kitchen can be fast-paced, particularly during busy weekends and holiday periods, so we're looking for someone who can stay calm under pressure, work efficiently and take pride in every plate they send out.
THE ROLE
- 4 or 5 days per week, including weekends.
- Salary: Dependent upon experience and agreed days and hours worked (£22,465–£28,100 per annum).
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred, ideally around 1 year or more, although we are happy to consider candidates with slightly less experience who demonstrate the right skills and attitude.
This is a hands-on cooking position involving the preparation and service of our regular menu, alongside the opportunity to help develop new dishes, seasonal specials and occasional private dining or evening events.
We're looking for someone who understands that consistency is just as important as creativity. Much of the role involves preparing our popular menu dishes day in, day out, ensuring every customer receives the same high standard of food.
However, there will also be opportunities to get creative, contribute ideas and help us develop exciting new specials and menus.
BENEFITS & PERKS
- Daytime hours – no regular evening shifts.
- Competitive hourly pay plus tips.
- Paid lunch breaks.
- Complimentary staff meal.
- 10% staff discount.
- Permanent employment with a choice of 4 or 5 working days.
- Christmas Day off.
- A friendly, supportive and respectful kitchen environment.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and contribute to new menus and specials.
- A beautiful Peak District working environment.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience cooking in a busy café, restaurant, pub or similar commercial kitchen.
- Can confidently cook and manage orders during a busy service.
- Remains calm, organised and efficient when working under pressure.
- Has good food preparation, cooking and presentation skills.
- Takes pride in producing consistently high-quality food.
- Understands the importance of food hygiene, allergen management and maintaining excellent kitchen standards.
- Is respectful, professional and communicates well with colleagues.
- Works well as part of a team and is willing to support others.
- Is happy preparing and cooking our regular menu dishes consistently, even during repetitive or particularly busy services.
- Is reliable, hardworking and willing to get involved in all aspects of running a busy kitchen, including preparation, cleaning and stock rotation.
- Has an interest in creating new dishes, seasonal specials and contributing ideas to our menus.
- Can adapt to changing priorities and work efficiently without compromising quality.
Most importantly, we're looking for the right attitude.
You don't need years of experience or an impressive job title. We're far more interested in someone who can genuinely cook, handle a busy service, stay calm under pressure and treat their colleagues with respect.
We want someone who takes pride in their work, understands the importance of teamwork and enjoys being part of a happy, well-run kitchen.
WHY JOIN US?
At Eyam Tea Rooms, we believe working in a kitchen should be enjoyable and rewarding.
You'll be joining a friendly independent business where good food, teamwork and mutual respect really matter.
Our regular daytime opening hours offer a work-life balance that can be difficult to find in hospitality, while our changing specials and occasional events provide opportunities to try new ideas and develop your creativity.
If you're a capable, hardworking chef who enjoys cooking fresh food and wants to be part of a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.
