What they need
Chef de Partie - New Production Kitchen
Full-time, Permanent | £13.00 to £13.50 per hour (about £28,700 to £29,800 a year) | 42.5 hours per week | Flexible shifts | Redditch
Brand new 5,000 sq ft production facility. Brand new machinery. Free on-site gym. A business that never stops growing.
About us
Eric Lyons is a family butcher and fine food business that has been feeding the Midlands for five generations, since 1903. Alongside our shops in Knowle, Bentley Heath, Balsall Common and Codsall, we deliver nationwide online, and our stores are expanding quickly.
To keep up, we have built a brand new 5,000 square foot production facility at Oakland International in Redditch, headed up by our Production Director, Dan Lyons. It is a fantastic place to work, and you do not have to take our word for it: have a look at our Instagram, @ericlyonsltd, to see it for yourself.
Our production team is around 10 amazing people creating the best food possible for our shops and online customers. We never stop: we keep improving, keep growing and keep creating new products, and we want you to be part of it.
The role
We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic Chef de Partie to join our production kitchen, reporting to the Sous Chef. No two weeks are the same. Depending on your skill level, you could be working on:
Pastry making
Sausage rolls and pies
Ready meals
Basic butchery, such as pigs in blankets
Raw butchery products, such as hunter's chicken
Premium lines, such as beef wellingtons
You will be working with brand new equipment, including a meat depositor, a pie machine and new production lines, so you will learn modern, high-volume production skills that are hard to find elsewhere.
What you will do
Run your section, producing our lines to plan and to written recipes and specifications, so every batch looks and tastes the same
Operate our new production machinery safely and efficiently
Keep food safety records up to date and follow HACCP, allergen and hygiene procedures, including temperatures, labelling and traceability
Control yields, portions and waste, so we get the most from every ingredient
Rotate and manage stock, and keep your section clean, organised and audit-ready
Help develop, test and launch new products to feed our growing number of stores
Learn the full range and cover other sections when needed
Room to grow
We have huge potential and are growing rapidly. As the business grows, so do the opportunities: for the right person, progression in both pay and role can be rapid. If you are ambitious and want to build a career rather than just do a job, this is the place for you.
What we are looking for
Experience as a Chef de Partie, or a strong Commis ready to step up, in a busy kitchen
Production, bakery, pastry or butchery experience is a big plus, but we will train the right person on our lines and machinery
Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate
Pride in quality, attention to detail and the ability to follow a spec exactly
Reliable, positive and happy working as part of a close team
Own transport, as some shifts start early or finish late
Right to work in the UK
What we offer
£13.00 to £13.50 per hour, depending on experience
Real opportunities for rapid progression in pay and role
FREE on-site gym
A brand new, purpose-built production facility with brand new machinery
28 days' holiday including bank holidays, plus your birthday off
10% Profit Share scheme
Employee discount
Free on-site parking
Workplace pension
Cycle to work scheme
Company events
Flexible early, late and weekend shifts, built around your dream days and hours
Hours that work for you
We work a mixture of early, late and weekend shifts across 42.5 hours per week, and because we are expanding rapidly, there is real flexibility in how those hours are made up. So our first question to every new starter is always the same: what are your dream days and hours? Everyone wants different days and hours, and with so many shifts to choose from, we can make this happen. This is not just something we say in an advert. We genuinely want this role to work in your favour, because if you are happier in your role, everyone wins.
How to apply
Click Apply and send us your CV with a few lines about your kitchen experience, the kind of food you love making, and your dream days and hours. Have a look at @ericlyonsltd on Instagram first to see where you could be working. We look forward to hearing from you.
