Chemist Assistant Manager/ Manager– Precious Metals

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Manager / Assistant Manager – Precious Metals Recovery & Refining to lead the establishment and operation of our precious metal recovery facility. The role will oversee the initial laboratory setup, equipment commissioning and process development before transitioning into full-scale recovery and refining of Gold, Silver and other precious metals. The successful candidate will be responsible for process optimisation, technical operations, team coordination, safety and compliance, while ensuring efficient recovery, high yield and quality output.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the recovery and refining of Gold, Silver and other precious metals using wet chemical treatment, acid digestion, precipitation and related processes.
• Develop, establish and optimise recovery and refining processes based on the composition and characteristics of incoming materials.
• Evaluate incoming materials and determine the most appropriate recovery, refining and processing methods to maximise precious metal recovery and yield.
• Supervise day-to-day recovery, refining, melting and processing activities, ensuring operations are carried out safely and efficiently.
• Lead the setup, commissioning and continuous improvement of laboratory, recovery and refining equipment.
• Monitor process parameters, recovery yields, product quality and production performance, and implement improvements where required.
• Lead and guide laboratory/production personnel, including work allocation, technical guidance, training and performance monitoring.
• Work closely with Laboratory, Engineering and Operations teams to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure smooth facility operations.
• Manage laboratory and operational inventory, including chemicals, gases, glassware, equipment and other consumables.
• Maintain accurate records of chemical usage, process parameters, production output, recovery yields and precious metal inventory.

About you

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in precious metals recovery, refining, hydrometallurgy, chemical processing or a closely related field.
• Experience in e-waste precious metal recovery or Gold/Silver refining is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of acid-base chemistry, acid digestion, precipitation, chemical separation and precious metal refining processes.
• Practical experience in Gold and Silver recovery/refining processes, including material assessment and yield optimisation.
• Experience in laboratory/facility setup, equipment commissioning and process development will be an advantage.
• Prior experience in supervising or leading a technical/laboratory team is preferred for Manager level.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process issues and recommend practical solutions.
• Good understanding of chemical safety, waste management and environmental requirements.
• Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
