Chief Automation Engineer

Location: Central
Mon - Fri, 9am to 6pm with rotating shift on weekends

The Chief Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions that improve the efficiency, consistency, scalability, and reliability of IT infrastructure and application environments.

The role serves as the technical lead for automation initiatives, configuration management, infrastructure as code (IaC), DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and operational optimization projects. The Chief Automation Engineer will establish automation standards, lead engineering teams, and drive digital transformation initiatives across the organization.

Responsibilities:
The Chief Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and governance of automation solutions across the following areas:

Automation Strategy & Leadership

• Lead automation initiatives across infrastructure and operational environments.
• Define automation standards, frameworks, and best practices.
• Establish and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) methodologies.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation.
• Drive the adoption of automation technologies and DevOps practices.
• Provide technical leadership and governance for automation initiatives.

Infrastructure Automation

• Design and implement infrastructure automation solutions using Chef.
• Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks, recipes, roles, and environments.
• Automate server provisioning, configuration, patching, and compliance activities.
• Standardize infrastructure deployment processes.
• Develop automated health-check and monitoring solutions.
• Ensure consistency across development, testing, and production environments.

Scripting & Development

• Develop automation scripts using:

  • Python
  • PowerShell
  • Shell Scripting (Bash)

• Create reusable automation modules and frameworks.

• Develop operational automation solutions.

• Automate repetitive administrative activities.

• Integrate automation with enterprise systems and platforms.

DevOps & CI/CD Management

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Support automated build, testing, and deployment processes.
• Manage source control repositories and workflows.
• Improve release management processes.
• Implement automated deployment validation and rollback procedures.
• Establish DevOps best practices within engineering teams.

Project Delivery

• Participate in project planning and solution design.
• Develop automation-related technical requirements and designs.
• Lead automation implementation activities during projects.
• Support migration, upgrade, and transformation initiatives.
• Ensure automation deliverables meet project objectives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 to 8 years of experience in infrastructure automation, DevOps, or system engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading automation initiatives.
• Experience implementing enterprise automation solutions.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and management.
• Experience managing large-scale infrastructure environments.
• Experience supporting production operational environments.
